We go way back: Comments on really old posts?
When I find a new blog that I Looooove, I tend to go back and read through all of their archives, even years back, because I'm addicted. (Tell me I'm not the only one that does this, please?) So my question is- when is a post too old to comment on? Do you find it weird if someone leaves a comment on something you posted over a year ago, or are you still just happy for the comment love?

I like this - because just because someone wasn't "around" when you wrote it the first time doesn't mean it's not worth commenting on later. I'd be flattered if someone went through my archives.

Well, you're definitely not alone. I do what you do, like other good readers out there.
I only don't comment if I feel the blogger won't be going back to the post (this I weigh base on the entry topic). Otherwise, I will still comment like usual.
In general it's perfectly normal to be commenting on old posts. It's part of the blogging cycle.

I am the same way!!! If I find a blog that I like, I will stop reading the recent entries and go all the way back to the first post and read my way through. It's how I know if I really want to follow the person, plus I can understand their recent entries better, get to know them, etc., etc.
I rarely comment, even on posts I really like, because I was wondering the same thing as you!!! Now that I know what others think, I'll have to comment more. ^_^ I also have no problem with people commenting on my older posts! (Even though I just started recently. :P)

I always do this! When I find a new blog that I love, I always read back to get a better idea of who they are and usually I love it so much that I want to keep reading! I love when someone comments on an old entry. It shows that what I write is still meaningful and that people are still going back that far or landing there for a reason.

before i turned on comment moderation i wouldn't see new comments on old posts unless i went back to link to that specific entry. even now sometimes i'm like "what the hell are they talking about??"
for those reasons i tend to not leave new comments on older posts on other people's blogs.

I would love comments on older posts though I never got any, the only post I actually recieved a few comments was my penultimate post. Most visitors would just "maybe" leave a comment on your latest post, only honest followers might actually take the time to go back to the archives and actually read an older post. Probably if your blog is awesome enough then you might get comments on older posts. My personal opinion is that a blog is never closed for comments, if you have an opinion then you have every right to voice it.

comments on old posts is great in my opinion. i do the same, go back and read blogs from the beginning that i really like. although it definitely eats up my time, when i should be, say ...ummm..working on a paper!

haha I do the same thing! When i found Dooce's blog for the first time I was reading her blog like I was gonna write a report on it or something! I don't usually comment though, but I don't think its weird if you do.
