The Bloggers With The Most To Say

What is/was the most difficult part of your blog? Was/Is it the setup? Finding Topics? Gaining readers? I would like to know about your experiences. I am a newbie and am finding the setup to be slow but steady. I don't have many readers that I know of after a few weeks of posts. And I had a hard time thinking of topics at first or was so nervous to write anything but am easing up. I am intrigued by blogging so I would just like to see what everyone experiences.

Hey! I'm a newbie too. I've been blogging for almost 2 months now. I think the hard part has definitely bee gaining readers. I've been using Google Analytics to track the traffic and readers of my blog which I have really liked because it shows you where they are coming from (like google, links on facebook, etc.) so I can see what works and what doesn't. It's also really fun and exiting to see how many readers you have each day, how long they spend on your site, what countries they come from etc.

Just keep writing whatever you like, be yourself, and have fun with it. The readers will come, I promise!

Good luck!
Thats a good idea...using Google Analytics...had not crossed my mind I guess...Thanks for the tip there Sara.
Thanks for the assurance, Sarah. I just signed up and added Google Analytics so I should be able to evaluate my methods soon :)
The hardest part about blogging for me is walking the fine line between what is too private for my blog. Somethings that go through your mind are "will my family see this" or "what will my friends think". I am a private person in real life, but in blogging, I want to share everything about me... Neither of those attitudes are right for blogging, so everyday I have to watch what I say (or don't want to say).

i agree with this. i have a lot of great stuff that ideally i'd love to share, but as a law school student with a fairly conservative family, i try to keep it pretty harmless. especially because i only blog kind of anonymously - i never mention my classmates or colleagues or whatever.
I also struggle with content. I haven't posted my pics or told many friends that I am blogging because I want freedom to express my mind. I would never compromise an important relationship so I think my blogs will be fine... I did, however, post my cat's picture and I know she would be mad. So I guess I am a hypocrite.
My blog is a creative outlet so I don't want to be held back. I won't be dogging on eveyone I know but I would like to give my opinion in full when I want because that is not something I can do in real life (im a sucker).
Your poor cat. She may sue you!
Gaining readers definitely. I'm getting tons of hits, but not a lot of people are commenting or subscribing. Boo :(

It takes a while to get readers. Just be patient and keep blogging. Also you need to get your name out there. The more you comment on another the blog the more people will find your blog and check it out. I've been blogging since April and just started getting consistent readers.

Also for ladies, join The SITS girls.
What was most difficult about my blog (besides coping with Blogger's farking obsession with screwing up the spacing everytime I make a piece of text italicized or bold) was, and to some extent still is, dealing with the tendency of the blogosphere to pigeonhole.

For instance, I'm honored that my blog was nominated as "Funniest Blog" for the Blogger's Choice Awards, but it's hard to put yourself out there as the "Funniest Blog" if one day you decide you don't want to write about something funny. Like my piece today, for instance. (Shameless plug. I know. Kill me hard.)

I just feel like a person's blog is going to be what it's going to be and, because it's a reflection of our lives, which aren't always funny or depressing or kooky or, dare I say it, "snarky," that we can't and shouldn't be expected to fit into a neat little mold, because that's just not how it is. Or ought to be.

Damnit.
I agree, Mr. Apron. I would have been blogging months ago except when I was researching the logistics of blogging, I could never quite figure out how to fit in a niche.

My blog is based on my life, which is ever changing. When I decided to actually start posting blogs I decided my niche would be career life and escapades; hence the name Deadlines & Dirty Martinis. Now, I am finding that there are a lot of bloggers that are "life-based" so to speak so maybe that will be my "niche" where I can find blogs to read and readers. So we don't have to conform even though etiquette suggests to.

All in all I am happy to be having a creative outlet, but I do like feed back.

Congrats on being the funniest blog ;)
Getting new readers and also comments... I've been blogging longer than most people here (over 4 years) but my topics are sort of mixed between being a 20something and being a type 1 diabetic, which means I'm not sure what actually appeals to anyone. I've thought about starting 2 blogs but that seems too complicated and too much work!
