The Bloggers With The Most To Say

It's interesting to me to hear everyone's point of view.

As a military widow it's not only an exciting move in the right direction, but a very emotional time that has caused me to reflect on the things my husband and I went through after he was wounded, then the things I went through after he died.

Here is my post on it. I'm sure over time my opinion will change in one way or another, but for now, this is how I feel.

The Iraq War is Over

Wow. I've never met anybody who knew somebody who died in Iraq. (or anywhere other conflict) Can't even imagine. I'll check out your post.

And no, they will not be forgotten.

Honestly, I think it only ended because Obama wants to win the next election and he knew if he didn't "end" it then he wouldn't get so many votes because that was pretty much his sales pitch for his first campaign.

The war has "ended" but our government is still sending troops over there. My co-workers husband is laying in a hospital bed as I type this from being blown up. She just got news yesterday that his deployment has been extended. War is over? Yeah ok.

Yea. They are still being deployed to Afghanistan. That is where most of the injuries/deaths have been occurring for a while now. The death and injury won't be stopping anytime soon, I'm afraid.

I agree.

There will still be like 20,000 "personnel" over there. It is kind of like what we have in Korea and other places but a smaller scale. We will have significant "personnel" there for a while.

I couldn't be more excited, though I wish we'd get out of Afghanistan too. In addition to being an ardent pacifist, I also have four family members (uncle, brother, and two cousins) in various branches of the military with another joining in January when she graduates. I worry about their safety far too much.

It's a ploy by Obama to win the next election, you don't have to be a genius to figure that one out. And if he does win, guess what? The troops are going right back. I don't buy it but I am happy for the military families.

I agree.

Take this as it is I work in refugee resettlement, it is what I did directly after college before grad school and after a few years off for other jobs and grad school and doing it again only at a different level.

I disagreed with our intent there to begin with an am glad the troops are coming home. However, I feel sad for the hundred thousands innocent Iraqi's  killed, and the millions of Iraqi's we displaced.

I'm glad our troops are back, but hope we do not forget that we devestated the lives of millions of Iraqis and we can't abandon the refugee population.

The end of a way is a good thing.
