The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I was just thinking about how I may graduate without an tactile skills. I often think we are losing touch with what exists around us. Obviously in today's world it is impossible to know how everything works or how to do everything, but somethings I still think it is good to know instead of relying so heavily on other people. Maybe I just value independence to highly. How important do you guys think physical skill are to your life? And what skills do you think are important to know or would be if you had to work out of the realm of ideas and abstract products?

Wow, it seems like Communication and Car repair seem like the top skills useful in todays society. I'd like to add basic carpentry. I was thinking that I wouldn't be able to build anything myself and I'd really like to. I compiled a list of interesting, although only semi-useful skills that I would like to learn (http://bit.ly/ccOpGy) which includes lock picking and fur trapping. Just in case.
bicycling. it is a skill that never dies. and once you learn you never forget.
That's a great point, Melody. So true.

It's incredible what knowing how to ride a bicycle can give you access to, especially if you live in remote areas/regions. It can be so incredibly empowering.

It's ridiculous how much I take it for grated that I know how to ride a bicycle (I know many who would say to the contrary having witnessed many of my spills). It always shocks/surprises me that there are people out there that don't know how to.
I think that effective money management is definitely an important skill to have, especially because many 20somethings aren't making the big bucks right away (or at all, if you choose a less than lucrative career like I did). But I think that as tempting as it is to use up our paychecks on fun stuff, we have to set aside most of it for stuff we need rather than stuff we want.
Of course, I'm a total hypocrite, because I just spent six dollars on a Starbucks breakfast.
Well, I suck at communication so I'm going to fail at life.

Anyway, I think a basic level of carpentry is important, as well as basic cooking skills.

I love to dance, so that's a physical skill that's important to me. I'm trying to go off my medication so my muscle weakness will fade so I WILL be able to dance again.
I think the ability to see is the most important skill anyone could possibly possess. I do a lot of sewing, cooking, drawing in my life and field of work. I think I spend about 14 hours a day sewing during my busiest days. The ability for me to see what's happening and what needs to happen. The same is true in cooking. Naturally, drawing requires a lot of sight.

I'm not necessarily talking about just seeing something. Most people who have vision can see well enough to get them through the day, but I'm talking like right brain seeing. The ability to see something and mentally disect and understand it. It is the visualization of the world around you inside your head. It can be tough to lurn how to turn on these functions in the brain, but when you do it, it opens up the world around you.

Of course, this is a more useful skill if you're in the arts, but I'm sure it has practical applications to many fields such as engineering and construction.
