The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I went through a lot of phases as I was growing up, and have managed to accumulate the biggest pile of random articles of clothing that mismatch more than they match when you look at it all side by side. I've decided to finally let go of it all (yes even the memory filled shirts and paint stained cargos) to make space for a more cohesive wardrobe, and a more stylish one at that.

In the past I've sent giant boxes of clothes to the poorer areas of the Philippines. I've also donated a lot to the Salvation Army. I still have dozens upon dozens of clothes I don't use and I want to know what you do when you need more closet space!

Let me know!

I'm notorious for posting it up on facebook that I'm clearing out my closet and anyone who wants whatever is free to rummage through what I'm getting rid of. My friends always get first pick at it, and they usually do a pretty good job of taking most of it. Then, what ever's left over ends up being given to goodwill/salvation army etc. I'll usually keep the coats until the winter and donate them for the winter coat drive if they're still in good condition.
You're lucky you have such a response! I'd do it but most of my good friends are overseas. I'm afraid the ones I have here would shrug it off. :D Good of you to remind me about the winter coat drive! I'll keep my extra coats for then.
I cut them up and make something else! Make t-shirts into halters, pants into skirts or shorts. And now I make most of my stuff into tote bags and messenger bags. It's fun and budget friendly =)

If they are totally useless to me I donate them or give them to my 12 year old neice, who is about to be taller than me!
Wow, you're so good at making tote bags! They're fantastic! I'm afraid if I tried to make one it'd end up looking like exactly that - I tried to make one, haha. I will give it a go before I die though! Thanks for the suggestion
I've cut stuff up and made new clothes, mostly unsuccessfully, but otherwise just keep donating clothes. I'm sure there are people out there that would love your stuff. We are constantly emptying out our closet filling bags and bags of clothes and we just donate it all to goodwill, salvation army, or cancer federation.
Yeah, for sure, I'll probably end up donating it all to the Salvation Army. It's just that I know it all ends up on shop fronts, selling for more than I'd probably sell it for myself. So it'll probably just sit in air tight vacuumed bags in the back of my closet. Ideally, I'd pack it and ship it to the Philippines but that is expensive and with the new move and all, I've spent enough. I'd try cutting it up. A collage of different shirts to make one cardigan? Doesn't waste the clothes and saves some closet space! There's a thought.
I hold on to them for entirely too long. I have a problem with thinking of (way too many) material things sentimentally.
I give them to my mom when she visits (we live ~400 miles apart).

She's very involved in church charities and also knows of less-fortunate families who could use (and would appreciate) the outgrown or just unfashionable clothes my husband and I no longer wear. While I could donate them to a local charity and write them off, I feel better letting her go through them first for the people and organizations she helps. Whatever they can't use, she donates elsewhere.

I must admit that I do have a few boxes of "memory" clothes though. Eventually, I may part with them. Or not...
I give clothes away to my students in need, habitat for humanity, and other philanthropic organizations.

i donate most of my stuff to the homeless shelters in the area, but first i go through them and pick out stuff that has good fabrics or cool patterns/prints and make dolls, monkeys, pillows, small bags, and stuff like that out of them.
I give the good stuff to the women's shelter but only the really good stuff that is usable for job hunts and so forth. The rest I just let the people come and pick up, there are people who will pick it up from variety of places from purple heart to vietnam vets and they usually place calls here weekly to see if I have bags of anything from books to clothing to give.
How about a Yard sale? Yard sale = fast cash ;)
