The Bloggers With The Most To Say
I have questions for you guys;
a) How do you determine which blogs are going on your blogroll. Do you have specific standards?
b) What determines whether you keep someone on your blogroll? Do you remove them after a time if they haven't posted/if you lose interest/etc?
c) Do you use your blogroll to personally remember the blogs you'd like to read or are you trying to let other people know what good blogs are out there? (I guess a better way of saying it would be 'Is it for you or for your readers?)
---
I essentially use my blogroll to remind me to read blogs. When I visit a new blog, if I like the first post I happen upon, I usually add that blog to my blogroll. Later, if they don't update for a long while or if I don't like further content I may remove them.
That's all. I was curious.

I remove blogs if I notice they haven't posted in a while, or if the quality of their posts go down, or if they post something that I find offensive, then I remove it as a boycott of sorts.
Permalink Reply by Unladylike Behavior on March 4, 2011 at 6:26pm Right now by blog roll is short. I'm working on getting it bigger, though!
I only post blogs that have buttons. This is new, and I might change it. A lot of blogs I like don't have buttons and I don't want a great quality blog to not make the vut because of this!
I only put blogs on my blogroll that I love to read. The ones that I visit daily. I won't add someone's button to my blog just because they want to do the same for me for publicity. I guess I feel like because it's on my blog, it's my recommendation, so in a way it represents me.

b) Yes, because it becomes a dead link and the point is for me to drive traffic to other pages I like, and other pages I think everyone should subscribe to. If they're no longer posting, then I consider it dead.
c) No, I do it as a service to readers who might be interested in reading other blogs or similar blogs.
Permalink Reply by cooper on March 4, 2011 at 7:32pm My blog roll consist of people I have formed relationships with over time (like from when I first started blogging in 2004), and I'm fairly loyal to keeping them on the roll. It also contains a sampling of some of the other blogs I read to give people a sense of my interest. My blog roll is on a seperate page of my blog not on the front page.
I sometimes put new blogs on there if I think my readers might like a certain blog, but not often.
I do most of my reading from my reader or google home page, so the blogs on my blogroll are on the readers too along with my many other reads.

Permalink Reply by Erini CS on March 4, 2011 at 9:24pm The majority of my blogroll are bloggers that I actually know -- most of which in person, but I do including "knowing" as intense, repeated internet interactions. (But I make it clear in my blogroll whether I actually know them in person or not.)
I also have a list of musicians and causes I support -- which really needs to be updated.
I feel that blogrolls get neglected more often than not. People just don't think to update them. But well, mine's on a separate page only available through a drop down menu in my nav bar.
