When someone is an intelligent writer, the blog flows well, we have alot of things in common, and the blog that makes me laugh or think alot about something they have written! I love learning about new people and meeting new people.
I agree Sonja! I will also keep coming back if a blog has some sort of occasional update on the person's life, without sounding like it's a diary. I follow some blogs because they inspire me, whether it's because that person seems to have an overly pretty life or if they are just optimistic and clever. Oh and as lovely as babies are, I don't want to read about them ALL the time on someone's blog.
A sense of humor and decent writing skills. (iF yOu RiGhT LyKE Dis? I CanT ReEd iT.) I tend to veer toward stories that I can relate to or learn something from.
This. Is. Perfect. I couldn't agree more. I also have a hard time with blogs that are all about one topic- which seems weird because I know most people gravitate towards those. I tend to get tired of them. And extremely jealous- especially if they are blogs dedicated entirely to cooking or travel.
Brandy, I agree. I understand that if you want to market your blog it should fit into a "niche," but I get bored reading all about your, say, work life if there is no personal stuff to back it up!
It's like meeting someone at a party: you start to talk and it's either natural, engaging and you might even have things in common OR it's forced and fake and you just don't want to keep listening.
I don't think you can force chemistry between a blog and its readers by adding a special 'weekly feature' or 'not swearing' or something, you just have writers with varying levels of charisma and the readers who huddle around that like a good story teller at a party.
I'm the same as Sonja. I'll follow the blog of someone who is a good writer. This may sound snobby, but I can't stand spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. I also love blogs that make me laugh and people who write about things I can relate to.
