The Bloggers With The Most To Say
It seems that a good 90% of the people I met through 20sb (who'd started blogging around the same time as me) have either abandoned their blogs entirely or post once every two or three months. I definitely went through a dry spell and am just now getting back to posting more frequently but not seeing any new posts from my old time friends got me wondering about the average lifespan of a blog.
Do most 20-somethings start blogging during turning points in their lives or maybe periods of intense boredom, so once all that's behind them, they stop posting? If that's the case, is an abandoned blog sort of a good thing-- perhaps, signifying that the writer has made some kind of breakthrough or that their offline life is becoming more fulfilling?
How long have you been blogging? Was there a moment when you considered calling it quits?
Have you ever gone on a kind of blogging hiatus?
Do you think that you'll still be blogging a year from now?

Amber,
I totally go on blogging hiatus. I have a personal blog I post on randomly. Its from 2006 and really just a chronicle, but I love looking back at my life.
On the other hand, I've actually turned it a freelance blogger so I essential blog everyday its usually just for other people, not me personally!

I've had a few blogs--started 2 of them for specific events/travels, but my new, lifestyle one has been live since January. I got a new job in March, and stopped blogging from then until July. I found that I was busy finding the groove in my new schedule and didn't need the blog in the same way I did before. Once I had a routine, I was craving that inspiration and creativity in my life again, so I've been back regularly since then.
I hope I'll still be blogging in a year! I loveeee it so much!
Great discussion topic, really intereting to think about!

Permalink Reply by Stephanie Iris on September 6, 2011 at 1:35am I started and stopped several blogs before the one I am on now. This blog was started about 4 months ago, and it's gained so much momentum and I can hardly believe it.
My issue behind my blogging dry spells were always the reasons why I blogged. Now I blog to entertain myself, to practice writing and to try and entertain others.
So far this motivation has pushed me to keep blogging. I am confident I will still be doing this in a year, though I cannot imagine where I will be then.

I started blogging about 13 months ago when I moved from the US to Germany with my hockey playing fiance for his career.
I definitely go through frequent "dry spells". Blogging sometimes overwhelms me and feels like a full time job that I am getting less than minimum wage to run! When I feel that way, its not fun and I definitely need to take a step back in order to gain my focus and have the creative juices flow.
I surely hope that I am still blogging a year from now. I often want to call it quits, hell, I was even considering it last week! ;x , but at the end of the day it's my little labor of love and I'm not sure if I'll ever let it go :)

I think most people get bored, run out of topics, get distracted by real life, or wonder if there's a point to their blog. We see people have super popular or profitable blogs, then they see theirs that has small traffic even after a few years. Or, they get bad feedback and quit. Or, they find another hobby.
Permalink Reply by Bea Beautiful on January 30, 2012 at 9:46am I started blogging in 2008, and it kind of became an obsession. I spent way too much of my time on 20sb and my blog, and when I realized it I tried to cut back a little. At the same time I started getting in touch with old friends from high school and started having a social life (my husband and I were serious homebodies) again. Once I started back at college, the blog kind of fell off of my radar, simply because I was so busy.
I came back to it twice in the hopes of being a regular poster again, but just couldn't find the time.
I've been back now for a little over a month, with a new blog and new subject matter, and because I'm so dedicated to the new subject (weight loss), it's been much easier for me to make time for my blog, the group blog I participate in and keeping up with my followers and the blogs I follow as well. I truly hope I can keep up with it and stay a part of the blogging community, because I genuinely like the people I meet through blogging.
