The Bloggers With The Most To Say

There's a blog that I subscribe to because it hosts a lot of good giveaways, but they recently put one up that raises some ethical questions.  The blog owner is requiring people to "donate" a dollar or more towards a gift certificate that will be a part of the prize in order to enter- more $ donated = more entries.  In other words, it is basically a raffle/lottery.   I left the blogger a polite comment mentioning they might want to double check their state's laws, since I'm pretty sure that's illegal, and while their response didn't totally make sense (I don't think English is their first language) the gist of it was "I don't think many bloggers know that or would really follow that rule."

I kinda shrugged and didn't reply, but it's been a couple of days and it is still kind of bothering me.  Is that odd?  I don't want to see the person get in trouble, but I find it odd that their response to me pointing out that their contest isn't legal was basically "who cares?"  They have almost 1500 followers but it looks like only one person has entered so far.

Would you say/do anything else about it?  Or is it totally none of my business?  Do I need to go take a nap instead of taking things so seriously?

Erm... I mean, it's nice that you warned the person that they could get in trouble. If they don't want to heed that warning, then that's their choice. At the end of the day, it's no skin off your nose if they wind up in trouble, right? I'd just let them get on with it :)

I think you've done what you can to help- alerted the blogger about it, and you've left a warning about it (to whoever wants to heed it) in the comments. The person has basically said they don't give a crap...soo, there's nothing to be done. I'd leave it be.
