The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I just posted on my blog ranting about my job, and it made me wonder. How many of you work in a restaurant or ever have worked in a restaurant? I'm sure there must be quite a few...

I'm a server, and it's good for my schedule because I'm in school and it's way better money than most other part-time jobs out there. but sometimes it's just plain stressful and annoying. if they never have before, I think everyone should have to sit in and experience what it's like to work in a restaurant for just one day. most people that go out to eat just have no clue.

I've worked in all kinds of restaurants. I used to be a hostess at Outback Steakhouse and Mad Mex. I liked working at both of those restaurants...the people were nice and it was decent money.

I've also worked at Panera and a few cafes in college. I liked the college cafes, but I HATED Panera. I hated it! I think it was mostly the managers that made it miserable.

I never really hated customers at all. Hostessing isn't as stressful as serving, I don't think. It has its moments, but once we seat them, they're usually out of our hands. I think that working in the food industry is something everyone should do. You certainly learn a helluva lot.
I never worked with a restaurant, but I worked for a catering company -- so we still served people. Stressful is the best word to describe it! At this point in life I'm no longer do that, but I sure remember to take care of my servers because dang it .. it is tough!
I have 8 years of restaurant experience, my mom managed a bar/restaurant when I was young so I started waiting tables when I was 11. I now work retail, which is a lot less money, and I'll probably get another restaurant job soon.
Totally agree!

I did it for a month during the summer when i was 16 to help out a friend who's mom owned the restaurant. I was suppose to stay
for 2 months but after a week on the job i was ready to quit! People would tip crappy regardless of how you well you treated them...
and it's a job that requires a hell of a lot of work. I have never hurt that bad my entire life. lol. [feet & back]

Because of how hard i know it is... I ALWAYS leave a Really good tip. and if it's a group of friends, I always add more on top of what
they already left. They of course, think i'm crazy... but i know that it DOES make a difference!!

If i could help it, I wouldn't want to work in a restaurant again! But NOT because it's a beneath me... God knows I don't have the patience to deal with peoples bs! Lol. That's why I have a lot of respect for people who have been in that kind of work for years and still treat their customers great.
I worked in a restaurant all through college and loved it. I met so many different types of people and made a ton of money. Once you establish some regulars they make the rest of the crappy people worth it. I also loved that no day was ever the same and I miss that sometimes. I wish I had kept a journal of all of the craziness that happened. I could have made millions off of my stories but alas...I didn't write them down.
I have waitressed and been a banquet server. I think EVERYONE should have to work a food service industry job to learn how to treat people in restaurants. They way some people behave you would think you aren't even a human being.
