I think Jessica Darling is the fictional character I most identified with on a personal yes-I-am-like-this-person level. Off the top of my head, I'll say I'd want to be Lyra Silvertongue, mostly because it would be sweet to have a daemon... and she has an awesome name (I mean, all right, fine her last name is really Belacqua but whatever). This is partially because I have been itching to re-read the HDM books for the last couple weeks. I will probably come up with a better answer later...

Yes! Lyra is such a good one. Not only do you save the world from an overarching, evil religion, you get to hang out with talking polar bears, witches, and crazy horse/elephant things (that I still can't visualize) and just generally kick major ass while going through puberty.
You should reread the books. I did recently and enjoyed them more than I did when I was a kid.

Oh god. I have to agree with Jessica Darling. I read that book when I was in high school and my best friend and I still talk about if our current man is our "Marcus".

Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice! Or really anyone from Jane Austen. I'd love to be a Jane Austen character. They go to parties and visit friends and play the piano and meet hot guys all day long.

Oh, but the fictional character I think I'm actually the most like is Ugly Betty. I used to love that show because Betty and I were the same age, both worked and publishing, and were both awkward but optimistic.

This could really be replaced with almost any female lead in any romance/chick lit novel. "Dream" type of jobs, tons of hot men in their lives (all of whom they have dalliances with to some degree) and everybody they know is completely interesting.

Bill Gorton from the Sun Also Rises. Dude just gets hammered and watches all his friends lose their goddamned minds over Brett. Sounds like a pretty righteous way to ride out all that drama. Because there are bullfights.

Oh man, I'd actually rather be myself in a book than me someone else, but if I must pick I'd say Pam from True Blood! I'd say Sookie, 'cause I love her attitude (and her clothing) however Pam is ♥♥♥♥. I also wouldn't mind being Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter. Actually, I'd LOVE that!
