The Bloggers With The Most To Say
I haven't engaged on this site much lately, but I'm wondering how people feel about "selling" their blogs.
I feel like my blog's merely a diary I let people read, I'm not selling it, I'm giving it up for free! I lack tech savvy, the option of broadcasting the anonymous thing on my "real life" platforms and the know-how on promoting oneself without being too shameless...
Even though I blog about being a sex worker (ie literal whore) I am super squeamish about using shameless promotional tools to gain readers. I once joked if someone could ID a song, they'd get a free lap dance, but that's about it.
Advice por favor. My blog's content is too much for some to stomach, but it'd be nice to know where an expanded potential audience is :)

If only I were a true blog pimp with ho minions. I'd be like "beotch, where the fuck is my blog traffic, you ain't met your quota, ho!" Get yo' ass out there and hustle those page views....i don't care what you gotta do"
Speaking of which, my reward to anyone hustling mad blog views for me is you get to be my bottom bitch. And isn't that what we all aspire to in life? So go promote my sheeot, or I ain't taking you to McDonald's 24 hr drive through tonight.

There is a fine line of promoting and being annoying about it. I frequently post my blog URL on Facebook, which is where I get most of my traffic coming from. I do feel bad sometimes and I try not to be annoying about it but it's really the only way to share it with my friends and family and they enjoy reading it.
Permalink Reply by Gina on July 11, 2011 at 7:06am I just gave this suggestion to somebody else, but you really ought to be carefully optimizing yourself for search engines. Google has some good advice on this. That way you get as much traffic as possible coming in from new places. Because you're blogging about a very specific topic, it's probably going to be difficult to snag readers from other blogs. I would recommend going out and finding new readers instead.
And seriously? You gotta be a little shameless in self-promotion. Just make sure you mix it with an equal amount of non-self-promotional activity. I'm sure there's a direct analogy to your line of work: you have to put yourself out there in order for customers to find you, yes? Same thing here.

Permalink Reply by Ayman Nassar on August 11, 2011 at 4:12am theres no such thing as promoting ourselves without being shameless. and theres a thin line between arrogance and confidence.
ps is this an example of art imitating life?
