The Bloggers With The Most To Say
Most of my childhood breakfast memories consist of me and my brother fighting it out to the bitter end over who got to stick their grubby hand in the rice krispies and find the toy from the cereal box; the toy, or the bike reflector, or the puzzle or whatever it was. Why don't they do this anymore? I was giving the breakfast cereal aisle the side-eye a few years ago when I realised they were swapping collectible figurines for "educational" books and CD-ROMs, but now they're gone altogether and I'm fuming.
I may just have to write a strongly worded letter to somebody about this. I'm 25! I want toys in my cereal!!
Anyone remember any particular favourites?
Permalink Reply by Harley Jane on January 10, 2012 at 8:47am I just had four packets of maltesers for breakfast. Obviously sugary cereals set the trend.
Permalink Reply by Harley Jane on January 9, 2012 at 2:43pm They were pretty cool - I also LOVED the pencil toppers. Especially the Disney one. I had a Tigger one that rocked my world.

Permalink Reply by cooper on January 9, 2012 at 3:54pm I never ate much cereal but I know Red Rose Tea has small knickknacks that I used to collect - in high school though .
Permalink Reply by Harley Jane on January 9, 2012 at 7:08pm What's Red Rose Tea? Is this an American thing?
Permalink Reply by cooper on January 9, 2012 at 10:22pm I think it's Canadian but I get it here. I grew up in Australia and we didn't have it there.
Permalink Reply by Dave on January 9, 2012 at 10:29pm I can confirm that. I'm pretty sure my gran used to collect those figurines too.
Permalink Reply by Lynsey Smith on January 9, 2012 at 7:13pm good question. I don't have an answer, but I just wanted to share that I learned recently that cap'n crunch used to have an airhead flavored variety of crunch berries. AIRHEAD! CRUNCH BERRIES! ridiculous!
Permalink Reply by Gina on January 9, 2012 at 8:45pm My kids got about twenty SpongBob Squarepants figurines in their boxes of Coco Puffs this past summer. (I coupon-clip, and so got said boxes of Coco Puffs for about 75 cents each, and with three boys, we go through a lot of breakfast cereal, thus the plethora of toys)
Permalink Reply by Tom on January 9, 2012 at 10:17pm I blame Jamie Oliver. First he ruined school lunches, now cereals. Damn him!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cardboard bandana (I had to have all four colors).
Besides that, I remember some things you put on top of 2 liter drinks so you could have a giant squirt bottle. Those were awesome. There were others, but I have a horrible memory.
