The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm currently on blogger, however there have been problems for several weeks with IE users not being able to see blogspot pages. This a known issues that blogger hasn't been able to fix. I've lost advertisers and over 300 readers a day, so I feel that I may need to switch my blog over soon. So, I'm asking you all.

Wordpress or Typepad? I'm guessing, I'd have to self-host on Wordpress, because you have to pay for each upgrade on WP.com unless you're self-hosted. Thoughts? I'd like to know from users what the pros and cons of each are.

I love self hosted WP and I only moved when my blogger blog was hijacked a couple times. I have one wordpress.com blog and though I prefer it to blogspot I would definitely go self hosted if you are hosting advertisers. I also think there are a lot of techie and design types here, they even started a new section specifically for that, where people could really help you out quite a bit.

Cons: There is a learning curve ( not much) as WP has developed it is easier and easier to use, the design options are unlimited.

If you absolutely do not do anything but write and really don't have any interest in design or presentation, and there are some really good blogs that still use blogspot because of this, then I wouldn't bother, but I think if you are a control freak and want to play with presentation and design, or just have tons of options for themes without having to do anything but download them, it is really nice to self host on word press.

I don't have any experience with type pad so I can't help you there.
I'm a HUGE fan of Wordpress. There is a bit of a learning curve with WP.org, but there area a lot of bloggers here who can help you out with any questions you may have. Check out the 20SB HALP Desk for more advice, tips and support. I haven't used Typepad before so I'm not sure how it compares to WP.
I third Wordpress. I've used it both with the .com and .org (self hosted) and absolutely love it. I even installed it on my dad's domain for my family to do online newsletters -- and my 11 year old sister has gotten the hang of most of it. She hasn't posted pictures or tried anything other than text, but I'm sure once I show her she'd be able to figure a lot of it out on her own.

Dealing with custom themes can be tricky if you have an exact design you have in mind. I played around massively tweaking php for two days before my current theme was done. And like Jennifer said, just go to the halp desk and ask if you need it.

I've got a friend who "uses" Typepad, but as she's only really just installed it (ages ago) and doesn't blog at all, I don't really know anything about it. The new user interface with Wordpress is amazing, I definitely recommend checking it out.
I have a big huge crush on WP. I self host and have never had any problems with it. I love that it is so customizable.

As for losing readers, I would make sure that you push your feed when you get it set up. That way even if you can't see your blog, you can still read it through a feed reader.

Also, I think I heard the IE issue was due to the "follower" widget on Blogger. If you remove it, I think you can see it in IE.
Ooo thanks for all the replies. WP seems to be the best option. I need to start working on getting it set up. I removed the follower widget, and the problem still exists. I've been pushing my feed in the meantime, but the damage has been done. Thanks for all the feedback!
I went and did a bit of poking, and I think I know what's causing the problem.

Do me a favor and see if you can get rid of this <script> block. (It's related to your ads.) Both IE and Firefox cough up errors about GA_googleAddAttr (Firefox is just a little less obnoxious about it).

If you're still thinking of switching, I'll happily join the others in suggesting WordPress.
Hm. That's a new error, I had not seen before. Let me see what I can do. Thanks for letting me know.

The IE error is different and began weeks before I started using Ads. It's a blogger known issue, which they still have posted up as not having found a fix for.
You mean this one?
Yup, that's the one. My friend and I went crazy looking for answers, but then we found this (see 2nd post):

It said to remove the follower widget, but that didn't work for me and for plenty of other bloggers.
WP is good but really difficult! I just need to get someone to make me one and design it sometime in the future lol
I've heard good things about TypePad but it is definitely a more expensive option for blogging. I pay $7/month for hosting services and get unlimited storage and unlimited domains (I use WordPress), while TypePad's cheapest option is $5/month with only 2 gigabytes of bandwidth.

WordPress is open source, meaning that it's free to use as long as you have some server space somewhere, but that also means if there's an issue you have to hit the forums to see about fixing things yourself. It's really fun, though, and you learn so much in the process that it's easily worth it.
I had wordpress, and I can honestly say I like typepad much better, even though I pay on a monthly basis. I wasn't able to add javascript and that made it difficult because I wanted to promote my etsy shop and check my stats through sitemeter. Best of luck to you! :)
