The Bloggers With The Most To Say

So I am thinking about making the transition from blogger over to Wordpress. What are the differences? Which do you prefer & why?

I much appreciate your input :)

I always tell people who are thinking of making the switch to try out a free account on Wordpress.com. Wordpress.com hosts your blog so you don't have to worry about getting your own domain or web hosting, but you can still explore many of the awesome plug-ins WP has to offer.

Personally I love wordpress. I use Wordpress.org which allows for a crazy amount of customization. I don't do a whole lot, but I love that the options are there.
i voted for blogspot..its user friendly, simple, customizeable, u can chge the domain name just like wordpress to be .com or .org or etc,
I am a huge Wordpress fan. I used Blogger for my first blog; however, once I bought my own domain and such, I use GoDaddy for hosting (who were really helpful over the phone!) and Wordpress.org for my platform. The customization is awesome and it's really easy to use. Good luck!
Ahh, yes. The age old debate - Wordpress vs Blogger :)

People will always put Blogger down because they say it's not as customizable as Wordpress. I say they're wrong and just don't want to put the effort into learning how customizable Blogger really can be! A good example is my blog (http://diamondkt.blogspot.com). It looks NOTHING like a typical blogspot address.

As you probably know...Blogger is free. Wordpress has a free and paid version.

Anyway, if you choose to go with Wordpress over Blogger, go with the self-hosted PAID Wordpress version. The free Wordpress version has a lot of restrictions when compared to Blogger.
I have both but I find blogger more user friendly. I can't seem to figure out wordpress. But maybe I'm not spending enough time on it?

I also like that blogger allows people to follow you. Wordpress may offer that also but again, I haven't figured out how to do that. I'm not very savvy...
I really like how Blogspot is integrated with Google - makes getting a domain name, posting ads, analytics, and commenting a lot more inclusive and easy. If you want to switch to a .com, you can and don't have to pay for hosting. Blogspot is a great template for fooling around with the the code yourself and it's really easy to find tutorials online about customizing your theme yourself. Plus, I think their free themes are much more aesthetically pleasing than Wordpress's. Although, your choice may depend on what type of blog you have - it's kind of light, breezy, and conversational, Blogspot might be a better fit (a lot of personal blogs, design and style blogs, and women's media blogs work well like this and many use Blogspot). But Wordpress might be better if your blog is going to more like an online magazine - really designed, super professional looking.
I actually made the switch from WordPress to Blogger because I felt Blogger had a lot more options for me. Wordpress, at the time, had very few customizable options and widget options. (i.e., Twitter)

And I'm pretty happy with Blogspot. I've found a template site that converts Wordpress templates into Blogger templates so I don't see a problem with template options. And, like Lauren said, I also like the way it has integrated with Google, especially with following. I find it so much more user-friendly and easier to navigate with.

However, once I do get my own domain name, I'll probably make the switch to Wordpress. I've just heard a lot more good things about self-hosting with Wordpress than with Blogger.
I'm a big fan of Wordpress. I have one blog on Wordpress.com (the free hosted service) and one self-hosted Wordpress blog. For self-hosting, Wordpress is one of the best content management systems for blogs (and beyond) out there, and I definitely would recommend it.

If you're using the hosted service, it's really a matter of preference. Wordpress.com offers a lot of customization and some very elegant themes. I really feel the themes offered on Wordpress.com are better designed than most of the Blogger ones, which sometimes are a little to "Geocities"-esque for me. (That said, I've seen good and bad customizations of it.) Blogger seems to be good for personal blogs if you want to interact with others in that community because of the "follow" features and the way that it integrates with other Google apps.

Basically, it comes down to needs and preferences. If you want to be part of the Blogger.com community and don't care much about clean design, then stick with Blogger. If you want a more professional look or to self-host, Wordpress is the way to go. (At least IMHO.)
I started with Blogger but eventually made the change to Wordpress. I recommend Blogger to start with, as it was user friendly. However, as I got a bit more comfortable with blogging I tried Wordpress and love it. Like everyone else has said, it's all about preference. I would recommend trying each, just to see which you prefer.
I much prefer Wordpress.

Blogger is simple to get started but harder to customise a lot. The upside is you can advertise (free account on wordpress and you can't). Also the integration with Google is a plus.

With that said though, my wordpress blog brings in a lot more traffic from Google, the countless themes to change the style in 2 clicks, and even some of them add to the customisation like Thesis Theme which I run on (which also has built in SEO stuff which brings extra traffic in).

I wouldn't actually go back to blogger again now.
I switched a year ago from Wordpress to Blogger, and I prefer Blogger. I feel like I --personally-- can organize my blog how I want it to be, but that's just me. Maybe try out a practice blog on Wordpress for a few weeks and see if it works for you. As you've seen from the other responses here, it changes from person to person :)
I just moved from Blogger to WordPress. I was totally confused at first. I then bought my domain name (Spilled Sweet Tea)and had my WP hosted through GoDaddy.com and it has made all the difference. I can just call the customer service number any time I have an issue and they help me fix it. I know that doesn't sound great-WP is so complicated I have to have help-but I really do love it. I can reply directly to comments, I have tons of super cute theme options, and I <3 the plugins available for it. At first I wanted to tear my hair out over WP but now I'm crazy about it.
