The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Do you have a personal mission statement? If you did, what would it be?

If you could come up with a concise phrase to sum up what you want to get out of life, or what you want your life to count for, what would it be?

I have a friend who's personal mission statement is "live, love and make a difference." If you asked her, she'd say that she's got a long way to go to fulfilling that (although I would say she's already doing amazingly) but every day she strives to live a life that reflects that statement.

I know some people who would simply say that their mission statement is to "have fun." (An admirable endeavour!)

Another friend (who is far less concise) says that her's would have something about being a great wife and friend, and helping everyone she comes in contact with to be the best person they can be.

Personally, I'm not so ambitious. If I had to write a mission statement for my life, it would talk about every person who comes into contact with me feeling happier about who they are, and having more of a sense of their own self-worth. I hope that everyone I talk to comes to a greater understanding of how amazing they really are. I certainly have a long way to go, but I'm happy to keep intentionally trying to be that person.

What about you? What do you want your life to count for? What legacy do you want to leave?

NOTE: if you're not familiar with the concept of a mission statement, wiki to the rescue!!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_statement

My mission statement:
- To work hard; take pride in what I do, what I put my name on
- To be loyal; a good girlfriend, friend, sister, daughter, etc.
- To follow through; do what I say I'm gonna do
- To make people laugh; brighten someones day
- To always strive to show love and compassion towards others
- To take a break once in a while, relax, go on vacation
- To have faith, and to remember that without it I would have nothing.

Mine:

I will live a life of choice by pausing between stimulus and response to proactively choose a response that is deeply integrated with my recognized principles and values. In every situation, I increase my ability to act with integrity as I pause to ask with intent, listen without excuse, and act with courage

I seize the day and refuse to waste a single moment that I could otherwise use to better myself or work towards my goals.

I treat people honestly and fairly in all encounters.

I ensure that there is no blunting of passions by excercising a firm, healthy disciple over desires.

I tactfully and respectfully stand up for my beliefs and values, for goodness must have some edge to it, or else it is none.

I will, above all, live with passion and a sense of urgency as I understand that this gift is not promised to be here tomorrow.

"walk it off"

my dad and every coach I've ever had already told me to walk it off, even when I was actually hurt. As an adult, it's my version of keep on going, don't lay down and give up. So anytime life smacks me in the face, I just "walk it off".
Sleep it off.
