The Bloggers With The Most To Say

This might be along the lines of some of the other discussions, but I was wondering, how do you guys distinguish between blogging for yourself, blogging for the sake of writing, and/or blogging for the sake of your readers? I find that it's a hard balance between posting something that is important for me to commemorate personally, posting some writing that I want to display or keep working on (but that may not be great or even enjoyable to others), and entertaining/maintaining interested readers. I hate having to censor myself just because I think whatever I have to say at that moment may not be entry-worthy, and I also (personally) don't want my blog to be all about links/photos/clientele-catering. So what do you guys think? How do you reconcile the many uses of a blog? How do you keep readers interested without losing part of the original intent of personal journaling?
Thanks, Daria

I blog largely for myself, I started it in order to get in the habit of writing regularely; but it has since become therapeutic.

Now that I have a regular readership, albeit a small one, I do bare them in mind when writing - I feel that if somebody is taking the time to read my blog, I owe them enough to try and make sure they have something to take away.
It's a good point about writing or blogging having a therapeutic effect. That is certainly true. I know that people have also been able to find a community/support group (which also has a therapeutic effect in itself) with the readers, I just haven't experienced that side of blogging yet. So we'll see!
As a follower I'd prefer that my bloggers post less frequent stuff I enjoy, rather than lots of annoying fluff. It's hard to resist the urge to write for the people who are waiting on your next post, but if you start writing for your followers they're no longer getting what they signed up for.

That's what I tell myself to cut down on the annoying fluff. :-)
See, I started out writing completely for me too, but then I got scared that writing for me can be alienating to others. So now the purpose of a blog is confusing... The freedom point is a good one; I'll try to keep it in mind! Thanks. :)
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, it always surprises me too when random people are actually interested in reading about my life, be it good writing sometimes or crap other times.
