The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Okay, this is how I write:

I write everything all at once and edit as I go along. I rarely go and re-edit. Almost everything I write tends to be a final draft.

I write a few paragraphs and then read them, edit them, then check how it flows and matches with the rest of that page, and then move on.

I'm a perfectionist so I can't do "first drafts". At the end, I'll read the whole thing (or with my novels, only a chapter at a time) to make sure that it all works and doesn't seem choppy- in which case I'll catch a few typos or something- but for the most part I only do one real draft.

Also, when I've typed the paragraph or so, I'll read it aloud. One thing I've learned from a writing class in college was that reading your work out loud is how you catch things that you wouldn't have noticed otherwise. For some reason, your mind doesn't see a lot of things when you read it in your mind.

What do you do? What's your process and do you edit after, during, or both?

Wow, good for you for not needing a second draft. For me, I plan the best. I have to know what happens in the end. That doesn't mean that I won't allow the story to go off track as it needs to, but when I plan, I actually finish the story. But, most of all, I need to know the characters and I need to really take the time to let them "sit" in my mind for a while before they go on the page.

During, I go into until it's done. I canNOT edit as I go along otherwise I won't finish. I also handwrite my first drafts. When I'm done, that means I don't NEED to take a "step back," I take my step back by typing what I have written.  And then when I have done that, I share my story and gain feedback as much as I can and the rewriting process begins! :)

I tend to come up with Ideas as I am going to sleep but usually the next day I just start freewriting and getting it all out of my head. Then as I go along I just revise when necessary. This past month I started writing a brand new book from an idea I got literally one friday morning and how I am continuing to add to it. Please check it out on my blog Miscellaneous Ramblings of Eureka Thomas I revise and continue to write to it every Friday to it! Also check out Jeff Goins he has a lot of helpful tips on how to become or get back to writing!!!
