The Bloggers With The Most To Say

After working and living in the East Bay for the past year, I'm considering moving into the city to mix things up next year. What are your favorite neighborhoods in the city?

The Marina is a great neighborhood to live in. A buddy of mine has an apartment in the Marina with a great view of the Golden Gate from the roof and a lot of young residents in their 20's and 30's. Also, there are some great bars at Filmore and Greenwich with a young crowd.

I am interested to learn how your search goes. I am moving back to the Bay Area after I graduate in May and the city is on my list of places to live.
I second that, I live in the Marina and I love it! Great place for the younger 20 crowd. Other great neighborhoods to live in are North Beach, Tussian Hill and the Mission. All have fun bars and are very lively. Good luck!
My faves are (in order):

Cole Valley
Upper Haight/Panhandle
Hayes Valley
The Castro
Russian Hill
Cow Hollow
Pacific Heights

Places I am not a huge fan of? SoMA is a little weird, but it's very nice if you want to live somewhere new. It's just a little too new for my tastes. Nob Hill, parking sucks and it is a huge hike everywhere. Lower Haight is a little ghetto for me. Downtown is great (and super central) but is really crowded. And the Richmond District, Sunset District, etc. are too far out there and are really super foggy (but are affordable and you can get a lot for your money).

Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions. Now to start the search...
Lower Haight! After that...Hayes Valley.
Depends on what type of environment you're looking for... There are young people all over the city, but specific groups live in more specific areas. Preppier/East Coast and LA types tend to huddle in the Marina, whereas the Mission houses the hipsters.
Im Hayes Valley. Its cool here. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance, centrally located, cool stuff going on.
I live way out in the outskirts of SF in the Portola District...I'd only recommend this neighborhood for folks who like to be away from the craziness of the city. I'd love my next place to be in either Bernal Heights, Noe Valley or the Mission/Castro (near Dolores Park specifically).

Honestly, there are tons of great things about every neighborhood so I'm sure you'll enjoy wherever you end up. Good luck!
Gotta say, I live in the East Bay and I love it here (I work in SF). I have a huge 2 bedroom apartment with a formal dining room, living room, garden, enormous kitchen, laundry room, etc. for 1250/month total! I am in the Temescal neighborhood, which is probably my favorite Oakland neighborhood in general. Telegraph has so many great new places just a few blocks from my apartment--wine bars, amazing restaurants, markets, coffee shops, boutiques, BAKE SALE BETTY'S, etc.

But as far as SF goes, I like the panhandle a lot, as well as the inner sunset. I also think Bernal Heights is a great place to live--still more affordable than lots of neighborhoods, but so many amazing, walkable places on Cortland! Close to the Mission without the overwhelming hipster traffic, etc.
I live in Lower Pac Heights, pretty close to Japantown (about 10 min walk maybe). Love it here, I'm in the center of everything - easy to get to Jtown, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Polk Street, Mission/Castro, Hayes Valley, Marina... everything!
I love mission district. Cheap, tasty eats along with fabulous shopping = greatness!
