Digital Book Club?

Hey bookies!

First off, I have to say that chick lit is my guilty pleasure. My bookshelves are lined with medical, marketing and social media books, but behind them lie a world of pink, baby blue, yellow and red books that I haven't been able to put down until they're done. Also, I've just discovered the world of Jane Austen - I know, I can't believe it's taken me this long either - and I'm hooked.

What sparked my Jane Austen kick was the Lifetime movie (I KNOW!) Jane Austen Book Club. This made me wish that I had a group of friends in my area I could start a book club with. Unfortunately, everyone is so spread out. Don't hate me for this next part!

I am the community manager for a Firefox add-on called Glass. It allows you to literally write on top of websites. You can place notes and embed videos and even amazon items into these messages. From there, you can share these notes with the people you want and they'll be the only ones who can see them. It's a personal way to share and be able to have those conversations in context.

I'm always thinking of different use cases and thought, why not start a digital book club? Since we can't meet in person, we could choose a date, time and website and meet there. Perhaps we meet on top of the author's website, or maybe we meet on a travel guide for the location of the book. We could then have a live chat on top of the site about the book. And if a live chat doesn't work out for everyone, the message will still be on top of the site when the time is convenient for you.

Glass has a small community already, but I wanted to reach out to book fans to see if they think a digital book club would be a good idea and if any of you would like to give it a try. I'm all for it - just name the book!
