Struggling to get people to play music with you? can't find anyone you can work with? in a band with people who are impossible? like me, I have a bassist who is my opposite, knows every scale, chord name, very confident, he throws bad ideas out so often, i'd like to say "next time I want to fuck up one of my songs, i'll let you know" you know those people who like everything,and think everything is cool, he's one of them, I might kill him in his sleep, yeah that's what i'll do, and make it look like suicide, put a belt around his neck and his penis in his hand, coroner will just look at him, "no need to check for prints, poor lad just got carried away with the ol asphi wank, case closed". Maybe not though, i'll sleep on it.

As a bass guitarist myself, and person who has to deal with less than bright ideas all the time ( I am relieved I'm not in a band anymore, kind of) I feel for you, and your bassist.

I've been a musician for 10 years and nothing frustrates me more than being in a band with people who have no discipline. Sure, they're way talented, but they can't remember a chorus to save their lives. Every rehearsal is like starting from scratch. And even worse, nobody wants to be the control freak and whip everyone into shape.
Sadly, in my current project, I might have to become that guy. Such is life.

you said vent away so here goes: played a weekly show at a bar almost all of last year. it was a great revenue stream for me. the staff dug it, the patrons dug it, i was close with the managers, never missed or was late for a show (i lived 2hrs away!), and i pulled a handful of people out every week (tough to do on a sunday night). anyway, two weeks before christmas and two days before my next show there they call and cancel the gig indefinitely and effective immediately. their reasoning: i didn't play enough covers. thats fine and all, but i think the zero notice was unprofessional and disrespectful, especially after developing such a sterling record.
bars bitch about musicians being flaky and unprofessional. they're just as bad or worse at times. i've seen so many musicians get really screwed by venues... anyway, on to bigger and better things... peace.
