How many of you out there are in a relationship? How many of you are in a relationship where one of you has a job schedule that keeps you apart more than a 'typical' couple? If that is your situation, I can empathize. My boyfriend is a pilot, and he has an incredibly random schedule. He is out of town often, and he rarely has weekends at home anymore. Being apart from the person you love can really add stress, sadness, and strain to a relationship. But, there are ways to survive it and end up stronger than ever.
I knew what I was getting into from the beginning. Matt and I have known each other for seven years, and we have been dating for three. Since he was little, all he ever dreamed of being was a pilot. I have always admired his determination. I must have changed my mind a million times regarding what I wanted to be "when I grow up". Not him -- he always knew, and he stayed focus.
He was home a lot more during the first year and a half of our relationship but, as the aviation industry started coming back to life, he was on the road more and more. We knew his schedule would be like this eventually. It's actually a good thing for his career. But, it's still tough....
