Question for you all - has everyone here been tested for celiac disease? If so - what test (blood, biopsy, etc)? I'm self diagnosed so far, and wondering if its worth taking the blood test and reversing the 3 years of clean eating to get an "official diagnosis".

Any opinions? --thanks!

I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance by blood test about 3 years ago. I had an endoscopy procedure done recently where they did a biopsy to determine if it was Celiac's disease. It doesn't really matter to me now. Even if I weren't intolerant, I love gluten-free foods that I can buy and bake. It makes me feel better and am much healthier for it.
Hello,

I think you should most definitely get tested. My friend has celiac disease and she got tested for it, so she knows for sure that it's glutens that are making her sick. And I believe they can tell you how much damage has already been done to you from eating glutens too. It might put your mind at ease to know the test results
I'm having a bloodwork done next week to confirm Celiac's. Based on an IGG blood test I already know I'm allergic to wheat in all its forms, but a different kind of blood test may confirm actually having the disorder. I think it's worth it to know as much as possible, especially since if you do have celiac's you probably have significant damage in your digestive system. On the other hand, if your self-diagnosis is incorrect you may be able to have a little more freedom diet-wise than you currently do.
I tested negative on bloodwork for celiac disease, but have responded to a gluten-free diet, which led my doctor to call it non-celiac gluten intolerance/sensitivity. I definitely think anyone questioning should go for bloodwork, for sure, but it's not nearly as accurate as we'd like to believe it to be. I've even heard of people testing negative once and then two weeks later testing positive. Or people testing positive and then going negative a few weeks later.
I'm going through the testing process right now for the 2nd time. My old gastro lied to our faces about some results on other tests, so we're redoing everything with a new and wonderful gastro. Just had the biopsy last week, waiting for results now and am back on a gluten free diet. The only benefit for me really is just having confirmation for getting some extra money back with my taxes. Gluten makes me feel horrible regardless of it being Celiacs or not.
I hate the idea of self-diagnosis, but I am simply not in a place right now where I can get tested. Because I did the elimination diet on my own and responded really really well to cutting out wheat, that is what I have done. I don't know if it is a wheat allergy or a gluten intolerance, but I do know that literally all of my symptoms went away and I am perfectly happy giving up gluten for the long haul. It's what I'd have to do either way, so until I get in a place where I can get tested for sure, I am satisfied. Hope you find what you are looking for!
