...That's what she said.
In all seriousness, I know how hard it is to open yourself and let out your story. HPV has had a negative stigma for years. People see three letters put together like HPV, and they think "HIV." The difference between HPV and HIV - the P - it's PREVENTABLE.
There's no shame to be had for having HPV. Almost everyone is going to get or has already had HPV. Does this mean we're in a world full of promiscuous people? Not at all. You can get HPV your first time having sex, your twenty'th time having sex or you can be a virgin and get HPV. It's spread not only transferred via sexual intercourse but also via mutual masturbation, sharing sex toys, oral sex and heavy petting.
I want you all to find your voice and share it. Have no shame, own your HPV, but don't let it own you. As this group grows, you'll begin to see how many people in fact DO have the virus and you'll find people to talk to, interact with and relate to.
Stand up, Say It, and don't be afraid of any judgement. The more we spread the information about HPV, the more preventable it becomes. Knowledge is power. Sure, there are vaccines which are very helpful. But no vaccine will or should be the substitute for information and knowledge.
Let's get together and VETO the spread of HPV in a little project I like to call HPVeto.
I'm encouraging everyone to join the group - whether you have HPV or not.
If you have HPV - join to know you're not alone. join to meet others.
If you don't have HPV (yet) join to gain knowledge to prevent yourself from getting it.
No matter who you are, join to fight against the spread of HPV and Cervical Cancer.
Please also feel free to share your stories. If you're courageous enough to share it, it'll surely encourage more to share their stories and not feel so ashamed.
