The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I've recently started to convert over to a "locavore" diet (eating only local foods) and have made it a goal to start meal planning. Not only will this help me use ingredients that are in season that I can find at farmer's markets, but it will also (I hope) save me a bunch of money.

Do any of you guys meal plan? If so, do you have any sample weeks I could take a look at? And even better, do you have a blog or know of a blog that posts weekly meal plans?

Most of the meal planning blogs out there are family blogs ("omg gotta cook for the kids lol"), whereas I'm 1) not really interested in hearing about people's children, and 2) am usually cooking for 1 or 2.

Anything relevant (comments, questions, links, etc) helps! Thanks!

Oh my goodness, I see you're a Seattleite like me! I reccomend joining something like this: www.fullcirclefarm.com where you get a box of fresh, local fruits and veggies delivered to you (or you can pick it up at many pick-up spots that are close to you) on a monthly, bi-monthly, weekly, etc. basis. You can go online and see beforehand what you'll be getting in your next box and try and plan around that. It's easier in the summer months when more fruits and veggies are in season, but other times of the year will require you to be more creative (which is where lots of soups and stews come in).

Seattle has TONS of awesome farmer's markets, which I'm sure you know already!
Yea -- a bunch of the CSA's either 1) don't let you join mid-season, or 2) require a season's-worth of money up front (usually between $350-$500). I used to get New Roots Organics delivered, but it's not always local. I think I'll probably put joining a CSA on my list for next year though, and make sure I put money aside for it.

I am, in fact, off to a Farmer's Market right now (Phinney) to get some tomatoes to make pasta sauce to can.

Do you usually meal plan or just decide spur of the moment what you're cooking based on your CSA bin & what's at the market? I'm interested in hearing from people who do the spur-of-the-moment thing too.

Thanks for the recs!
I try to keep my kitchen really well stocked, which makes spur of the moment ideas a little easier. I always have a few kinds of meat, pasta, rice, fresh herbs (I have a small little herb garden) and lots of veggies on hand. But I live across the street from 2 grocery stores, so if I do need to run out and get something it's not a long trip.

I usually plan 1 or 2 meals per week and the rest is spur of the moment. Lately I've been making a lot of salads and trying all different ingredients to add to them.
