The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Did you want a specific breed? Were you set on a rescue?

People always ask me and my husband why we picked Bulldogs (he grew up with Golden Retrievers and I grew up with Labs.) We try to explain that it was important to us that the dogs were good with small children, were low energy and easy going. Plus, you can't say no to a bully puppy ;)

Curious to hear other motivations!

I went wanting either a Maltese or Yorkie. All of the puppies were napping except one - a lively Shih Tzu who stole my heart away.

I definitely wanted a small dog with a lively personality.
Actually, we didn't choose our first dog (we have two), it instead chose us.

A few weeks (or months, I forget) after our dog Zach passed away, we received a call from our vet. He said that he had a patient - a 6 month old black lab - whose owner was just diagnosed with cancer. She could no longer care for her, so the vet suggested we meet the dog and her owner to possibly take her in. My mom wouldn't even entertain the idea of us having a big dog that sheds (Zach was a small, hypoallergenic and perfect little dog), but she said we'd have them over.

Boo (as was her name back then) and owner came and we fell in love. And while it took my mom a while to warm up to Molly (Boo's new name; we weren't having a dog named Boo), she is with us 9 years later (with Emma, a mutt) and we're still in love. :)
I'm actually allergic to dogs and have wanted one my whole life. I finally said I didn't care how sick I got initially, I'd get used to it and get kind of immune to it after a while, so we started looking for small dogs that didn't shed much. I initially thought of a schnoodle or some other hypoallergenic mix, but my husband said no. He had a boxer who passed away right when we started dating, so he wanted a dog with a boxer-like personality that loved people and got along well with kids. That's why we picked our Boston Terrier. She's wonderful. My allergies have done really well, we've had her for six months already and the only problems I have usually come when she hasn't had a bath in a week or so. We couldn't ask for a better dog. I'm looking for a companion for her, though (not super seriously, but I'd like to get one eventually) and I'd like to get another Boston or a mix of a French or English Bulldog and a Boston.
I chose my puppy because A) she was a mutt, and from experience for some reason they all turn out to be wonderful dogs. B) She was quiet, and I live in an apartment. We've had her for almost a week now and she hasn't barked once yet! C) She's already housebroken and wicked smart. Very fast learner!

I love my puppy! :)
I was at my school one day and met a girl with a beagle puppy she was walking around campus. I knew I wanted to get a new puppy soon, so I started browsing the paper and saw an ad for a family selling beagle puppies. Just so happened to be the same family that sold the beagle to the girl at school. I rode to the house with my dad and looked at all of the female puppies, and there was one who was a little smaller and with a different spot pattern than the others, and I fell in love with her. Turns out, the puppy I picked was the favorite of the woman of the house!
I got my sheltie Rex for my 14th birthday, thats was almost 6 years ago. When I saw him I knew he was the one =) he was the quieter one and yet he caught my attention
I got our little puggle, Stanley, for my wife as a Christmas present. We'd been talking about getting a puggle for years. I took Stanley home with me because he was extra friendly and playful. The breeder told me he was going to be "hell on four legs" and he's pretty mischievous. I like that, though.
My husband's allergic to dogs so we decided on a non-shedding breed - a cockapoo, since that's what his family had when he was younger. We live in a condo so a small dog made sense :)
I grew up with Cairnterriers, but I'm afraid I'm not a terrier person... For my own dog I wanted something medium sized, calm, independent, easy-going, no guarding instinct, little to no grooming, healthy and breathtakingly beautiful. In other words: a whippet :)
