Currently Reading
I always seem to read more than one book at a time. I don't think that's the best tactic, but I try to read 50 books per year. I fell behind this year and tried reading multiple at a time. I think it took away from the reading experience though.
I'm currently reading: "Unnatural Death Confessions of a Medical Examiner" by Michael M. Baden, M.D. and "Sloppy Firsts" by Megan McCafferty.
Some of my favorites of the last year have been: "Body of Work" by Christine Montross, "Stiff" by Mary Roach, "A Dirty Job," "Bloodsucking Fiends," and "You Suck: A Love Story" by Christopher Moore, "Just Checking" by Emily Colas, "Another Day in the Frontal Lobe" by Katrina Firlik.
The unfinished books in my collection: "Haunted" and "Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk, "Spook" by Mary Roach, and "A User's Guide to the Brain" by John J. Ratey, M.D.
Books I'm looking forward to reading: "Dexter in the Dark," "Dearly Devoted Dexter," and "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay, "The Female Brain" by Louann Md Brizendine, "Straight Up and Dirty: A Memoir" by Stephanie Klein and "Bitter is the New Black : Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass,Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office" by Jen Lancaster.

I'm totally the same. It's not unusual for me to have two or three books on the go at once: Usually something light - chicklit or some comedy -, a book i've read before and want to read again, and something new that I've borrowed from the library - true crime, an autobiography, some kind of non-fiction book.

I've just finished a book called "Thanks for Nothing, Nick Maxwell" which was AMAZING (I seriously spent most of today reading it and barely did anything else - how sad of me!), and about to make a start on Marian Keyes' latest "This Charming Man." Looking forward to that!
I have a massive pile of books to read at the moment and have just ordered about seven more on amazon as of today. Ooops . . . -

Life of Pi was recommended to me, but after skimming a bit I just couldn't get into it. I hate that.

I agree. Yann Martel's "Life of Pi" is one of my favourite books ever! I think I've read the book more than a hundred times.
However, I didn't really take to his new book "Beatrice and Virgil". -

Life of Pi was sort of slow in the beginning but it's actually a really good read!

I'd highly recommend "Straight Up and Dirty" you have on your to-read list. I read it last year and there were times I literally was laughing so hard I fell off my couch! (Which in turn inspired my other half to laugh at me for the next hour and eventually I had to read him parts to include him in my couch-insanity). I'm actually currently reading Stephanie's latest book "Moose"- I wasn't sure if I would connect with it as much but so far so good!
Let me know how Bitter is the New Black is- I've toyed with the idea of reading that one for a long time but haven't heard any good recommendations on it yet. -

I finished "Straight Up and Dirty" a couple months ago and I absolutely loved it. I found myself relating a lot to Stephanie and I underlined half of the book I'm sure!
Biter is the New Black was fantastic! I've read all three of Jen Lancaster's books and Bitter is by far her best. She's witty, frank and honest. A little too honest at times. It was laugh out loud funny :) -
