The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hey guys!

So I'm just curious as to what books you have read that changed your life or thinking? What books did you find that were inspirational to you? I know for me I go for fast fun reads but when I find a book that really moves me I love it. I loved "Eat Pray Love" and I'm looking for something similar. And thoughts?

Thanks,
Lauren

I wouldn’t say that the book “moved me” but I did love it and enjoy reading through her travels and self-discovery. It is inspirational to me because I could relate to her story. When I read it I was going through a rough time and trying to find myself in the process and her words just seemed to hit home with me. What she had to say about happiness and faith and hope was like therapy.
I'm finishing up Eat, Pray, Love right now, and I must say that I absolutely love it. Even though she was in her mid-thirties when she wrote this book I can relate to her on so many levels, and find it very inspiring. Hopefully I can find a good follow up book once I'm finished. I also loved The Comeback (it was written by a mother and a daughter, about their struggles in getting the daughter off of drugs and alcohol).
I haven't read Eat, Pray, Love (although I'm beginning to think I should). But I really enjoyed A Year in the World by Frances Mayes (author of Under the Tuscan Sun). It's a about a years worth of traveling she did all over Europe and it is amazing. Her descriptions of places and food are amazing.
"The Beach" by Alex Garland is a big one for me. I've re-read that thing at least 15 times and I never get sick of it. I always find something new buried in the storyline and it's just fantastic. Amazing. Brilliant. Etc. And surprisingly, I only recently saw the movie this last December. And I liked the book better.

"The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak was another one of those life-altering books just because it really moved something within me. If you haven't had a chance to read it, I strongly suggest picking it up and giving it a go. It's told from the perspective of Death personified.... and it blew me away.

Also....just about anything by Sarah Dessen has changed my life because she is the writer I aspire to be like. To write like. She's THAT writer for me.
Reading it currently and i'm kinda sad to see this post. I mean I knew something sad was coming, but now i'll just be reading waiting for it... Oh well.
I loved Eat, Pray Love! Similar books I've enjoyed are For Tibet with Love by Isabel Losada (might be called a Beginner's Guide to Saving the World or something like that), and Tales of a Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman. This one especially is similar to Eat Pray Love. They were all very inspirational for me.
eat pray love did change my life. She did an amazing job putting things in a different perspective for me.
I will have to say that I have not read too many books, but I will say that the book Freedom Writers is very inspiring because it is a book and true story that I can relate to and the teacher portrayed in the story is a hero to the many students she has taught and I believe to be somewhat of a person that has a few qualities such as she.
Ohh! I loved that book! The movie was okay--not as good though. I also really liked A Hope in the Unseen--not really the same as Freedom Writers, but touches on some of the same themes.
I can't say that any book I've read has "changed my life", but Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss is a book I've read over and over throughout my life.

This children's book was given to me as a gift back in the day so I guess there's some sentimental value to it. But, I've found myself picking it up every once in a while to just quickly read through it. It's weird, but it's almost therapeutic in a way.
I bought that book for my sister when she graduated High School. I think I was 12 at the time and now both of us have copies. Her's is still the same one I gave her years ago. I have to agree this is a great book to reflect on.
Some books that really changed me/my thought processes, etc are:
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Out of the Silent Planet by C. S. Lewis
A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L'Engle
When Heaven Invades Earth by Bill Johnson
