The Bloggers With The Most To Say

Hi All,
I have barely event begun my masters degree so I am VERY new to this, but has anyone tried looking for a job/ found a teaching job recently? Is it harder than normal due to all the layoffs?

I just graduated in December and am finding it EXTREMELY hard to find a job. I have been sending out my resume all of the south, but still not so much as an interview! It is very frustrating.
I've heard that teaching is one of the fields where it is still possible to find a job, despite hard times. I've heard of openings in North Carolina and Tennessee and know of fellow graduates who are teaching in the northern virginia area at the moment. Still, I don't expect it to be at all easy...I'm trying to find a summer job right now, and though I've applied to at least 15 places I haven't found anything. Most didn't even respond.
Yeah thats what I have heard... i mean i have been looking for other jobs not teaching yet bc i am not even close to that and its been nearly impossible. So i am hoping by the time im ready to start teaching the economy will turn around.
That really sucks though, i hope for the best for you. Are the schools that u went to helping at all? Do they help u get jobs or anything like that?
from personal experience.. it is v. hard to find a job--with or without the layoffs. i went on a ton of job interviews and never heard anything back. v. discouraging..
my principal gets a TON of resumes in the mail and via fax or email and throws them in a file because there's just so many of them..
but, when someone comes in in person and delivers it, he (or the secretary/ap/mentor, whoever's in the office) gets their interest perked a little bit because there's a face with a list of qualifications.. as long, of course the positive first impression is there..

so, maybe try that route? good luckk!
yea, i'm having a hard time. i knew it wasn't going to be easy though, especially as i am 7-12 social studies. but i am pretty open with what i'm looking for. i was looking mostly at private schools but it seems that they are only hiring people with 2-5 years experience right now, so i'm also looking at public schools. i'm concentrating mostly in the md/va area, but i'm looking anywhere from nc to mass. so fingers crossed! good luck to everyone too :)
yes good luck to you!
i hope u find a job soon!
I think it depends where you go. In Hawaii, they've had to not only cut back on teachers, but we have "furlough Fridays," where kids don't go to school because of a cut in funding for education. It's prety crazy! I wish the best of luck to you though because there are jobs out there.
