Oh man! I've totally gotten that, and in Tennessee no less! Thanks for your reply
:) no problem. I have gotten it in a few different places.
Here here! As a 1st generation Texan, I always thought that explained why I don't sound like Renee Zellweger... However, I have a lot of friends from here, who's parents are from here, who's grandparents... They don't sound like Matthew McConaughey. I always told people I watched a lot of PBS as a child- seemed to get a laugh.
Ha! I forgot about country music. I am working on a fake texas accent so that I can mess with people when I first meet them.
I went to a conference in New York in February 2008. There were two of us there, me from San Antonio, and a guy from Houston. I was in a sweater and jeans, as were roughly 90% of the other participants, and he was in a sweat and jeans, but with boots to my running shoes. Everyone looked at us and went, "No, really, where're you from?" We spent about half an hour trying to figure out what these people wanted from us until some kind soul explained everyone expected chaps, ten gallon hats, drawls, guns, and spurs.

The amount of people that asked me if I owned a horse was completely ridiculous. But I was the jerk because I asked the guy from Canada if they called it ham or Canadian Bacon...of course, that also could've been because it was a Jewish conference, and not for asking that of the Canadian guy.
someone once asked me if was george w bush's neighbor. no, no i am not.
Ha ha! That's a good one. Yea, we all live next door to the president and hang out at his house.
I was born in Texas, moved and have recently returned. Once when I was visiting the in-law side of the family and uncle asked how many thousands of acres we had and how many hundred heads of cattle. Then he asked, "Or are you oil people?"
Ha ha! I had a friend who went to France for the summer. Everyone asked her if she knew J.R., as if he were a real person
I think the smiling and general friendliness of strangers gets Northerners all the time! It's like a myth they're startled to learn is true.
I went to Australia when I was 14 and part of the trip was staying with a family for a few days. They had two little girls and while we were showing them pictures of our house and school and stuff like that... the little one had the most confusing look on her face. We asked her if she had a question and she goes "but where do you tie up all the horses? do they just walk around outside?" - LOL!
