The Bloggers With The Most To Say

I'm moving to Houston from Seattle, and so far I'm bored. I've been so bored, I've resorted to shopping. None of you know me, but I can assure you, shopping is 180 from my outdoorsy Northwest self. The worst part about the shopping, is I don't even know where to go to wear any of it.

We attempted to go to Houston "Ride Night" on the motorcycles, but that washed out...
Went to a club last weekend with my friends, but it was adorned with sleezy strippers walking around mostly naked and giving lap dances. Not sure what the occassion was, I've been to that club once before and don't recall it looking like a brothel.

We did go to the Imax to watch Transformers... That was bad ass, but long. I blame Megan Fox for that one. If her booty didn't look so good in those white jeans, and her chest practically bouncing out of her top they wouldn't have made so many pointless running and ducking for cover scenes.

We were supposed to camp and float the river for 4th of July but the river is too low right now.

We're going (supposedly) to the Blue Lagoon in Huntsville this weekend, so that may turn up worth while.

I'm tired of the computer, I'm tired of sitting inside, and I'm tired of mind numbing money expendatures... Somebody help!

I hear ya... and I have no thoughts. Netflix has become my new best friend. But if you come up with something, and need someone to tag along, just let me know - I'm bored out of my mind. Could use a drink too, wonder if there's a nice (but not too pricey) place around... :o)
There's plenty to do in Houston! It's a great city. Here's some ideas, though you can find more just by staying tuned to the Chronicle or other resources:

1. Museums - Houston has a LOT of museums. Check out the Museum of Fine Arts for one of the largest Impressionist collections outside of France, or the Menil gallery for one of the largest Surrealist collections. The Contemporary Arts Museum is free and has new exhibits nearly every week! Or go off the beaten path and check out the Telephone Museum or the Weather Museum. [A lot more info on the multitude of museums: Houston Museum District.]

2. Parks - Lots of huge parks in Houston, always with stuff going on. Miller Outdoor Theatre is part of Hermann Park, and constantly has free shows including "Shakespeare in the Park" during the summer. Memorial Park is massive and has a ton of options of stuff to do, including an arboretum and inexpensive golf!

3. Washington on the Brazos - During the spring, take a trip out to WotB to see the bluebonnets. Have a picnic, hike the trails and check out the Birthplace of Texas.

4. Seasonal things - Check out the Art Car Parade, the Rodeo, Free Press Summer Fest (Aug 8-9! Don't miss it!), or the Houston International Festival.

5. Some other ideas - Every Saturday at 1 pm, St Arnold gives a brewery tour. Check out the Houston Downtown Tunnels, the Heights, or head down to Galveston. See a show in the Theatre district or at one of the many many neighborhood small theatres.

There's tons to do in H-town; it's really the greatest city in the world.

Good luck!

Hey!

I just moved down to Houston from North Dakota.  If you find anything to do, let me know!  I would LOVE to meet people down here to chill with.  I have NO friends down here yet!

I meant to just reply to your post, but have a look at my other one below. I hope you find a great group of friends in Houston. We tend to be a friendly folk :)

Agreed with Houston being the best city! There really is so much to do, but I can how it would be hard to get anything going when you are new in town. Right now, the best places to meet other 20 somethings (whether you are single, taken, or married) is at any bar on Washington Ave. In the last couple of years, that place has exploded! I am also partial to the Heights area, which has more low-key places.

In Feb/March you MUST go to the rodeo. Tickets are cheap, and you will get admission to the huge fairgrounds, get to see all the ropin' and wranglin' you want, and get the concert all in one day! You don't have to be uber country to appreciate all the good times there. (and MAN do I miss it when I am overseas!)

For a break from the city, head down to Galveston for the day. Walk the strand, visit Moody Gardens and have lunch by the water. It maybe not be the nicest beaches, but it is a great break from the city.
And on another note, if you want something more kiddie-like, the Kemah boardwalk is definitely worth the visit. I has some of the best seafood (love Landry's) and is packed with carnival rides and games.

Hope that all helps, and the other suggestions mentioned here are great too. Have a great time in Houston!!!

You want to meet hot young people--hit up Washington Ave.  Place is crawling (parking is a bitch, though).  Knox is a cool place to go out. Can't go wrong with Washington.  Rice village is ok if you want to mix it up and turn things down a notch.  Midtown is whatever--they got some rooftop bars with  great views of downtown...but the crowd was whatever.  You should give every spot a chance just to check it out.

I recommend you go to "8" on Washington Ave (if you haven't already).  And smile for the big screen when you walk in.

The bar Poison Girl is always fun. Also might want to check out Boeheme. Those are my favorite places to go to...oh and Fitzgerald's.
