In Which I Define (Again)

EXISTENTIALISM (noun): 1. a philosophy that places emphasis on individual existence, freedom, and choice, stressing the individuality of existence. While I freely admit that this humble trashcan is welcome to its own opinion, this takes the pondering of one's own existence a bit too far. After all, I cannot state that I am not human and have it be accepted as such. You cannot dispute what you are,…See More

Lately I've felt that my 20sb page is like the middle child of my Internet family. I just keep forgetting about it.

In Which I Am Just Plain Weird

Early last week, I got sick. The Boss had been fighting a cold for over a month, and it seemed that I had evaded her germs for as long as I could. I presented with the same symptoms as she had, with the runny/stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, and fever. It was fun stuff, let me tell you. Lucky for me, I don't stay sick for too long when I get colds, so I'm just about over it now. When I was right in the middle of it, when the congestion was at it's worst, I would spend a couple hours a night on…See More

In Which I Hold It In

This past weekend, The Boss and I went up to my parents house. We had promised them a game night a couple months ago, and were finally making good on our promise. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon with the plans to stay the night after watching the Patriots game (don't even get me started on the outcome of the game. It's still a sore subject). After we played a few rounds of Uno and before dinner was to be cooked, my mother decided to make some muffins for breakfast the next morning. She…See More

In Which I Get Busted

"Mike?"I froze.Right away, I knew I was busted. She doesn't often address me by my first name when we're at home. Normally, it's "Hey, Babe" or something to that effect. There also was something in the tone of her voice, the way it carried on the air, sharply, on a knife's edge almost, from the living room to where I was, in the bedroom on the other side of the apartment.I paused, holding out to reply until just before the point where I knew she'd call out for me again."Yeah?" I crafted the…See More

In Which I Am Green... Sort Of

Despite all the talk these days about "going green", there are just some things that I refuse to cut back on or change. I realize that this impacts my carbon footprint in a negative way, but the way I see it, my quality of life sometimes takes precedence. I'll continue to recycle as much as I can and make sure I'm not being flat-out wasteful, and if that isn't enough, well, excuse me for a moment while I go plant a few trees. One of the things I refuse to budge on is my use of paper products,…See More

In Which I Am An Asshole

Yes, you read that right.I am an asshole. Not very often, and not in the way that you'd expect. Thanks to the fact that I was born a middle child, and thus by nature a peace keeper, I spend a good majority of my time wearing the proverbial Welcome mat. I subconsciously let everyone from close family to complete strangers walk all over me. I do have a breaking point, and when I've hit the limit of how much shit I can take from other people, it feels good to shove that push-over persona out of the…See More

In Which I Figure It Out For Myself

When I was a kid, probably at ten or eleven years old, I figured out what sex was.It wasn't because my Dad sat me down and told me about the birds and the bees. It wasn't because I accidentally walked in on my parents in the throes of passion (which? THANK GOD). It wasn't because I found where a stash of skin mags or because I stumbled upon a porno.No. I learned how sex worked by helping my father wire up one of our televisions with cable.Allow me to explain. My Dad came home from work at the…See More

In Which I Probably Shouldn't Laugh

Just across the fence that borders the parking lot outside our apartment is a day care facility. Back when I used to live in this town growing up, the building housed a commercial embroidery shop. From the outside it doesn't look like it'd be very conducive to a day care, with drab metal siding and concrete loading ramps, but they must have done wonders on the inside.Through my office windows on the third floor, I can see over the fence. A cluster of thinning pine trees shield the backyard, but…See More

In Which I Cannot Believe It

There is an adult bookstore in a nearby town. It's in a small building set back from the road, the window-less facade painted a somber shade of blue. The main entrance is off to the side, behind a tall wooden fence that also guards the parking lot from the view of those driving by. A sign hangs crookedly between a weathered set of wooden posts near the road, bearing the name "First Amendment Adult Bookstore".I've never been inside the store, but I can't deny my curiosity about it. I've got…See More

In Which I Cannot Believe It

Last night, The Boss and I went to our local Save A-Lot to get some cheap groceries. If you've never been to a Save A-Lot, I'm sure you've been to places similar to it. They sell all the different types of products you see at a regular grocery store under knock-off names, but instead of having everything neatly lined up on the shelves, they stack the products inside the boxes they were shipped in. It isn't the most glamorous place to shop, but glamour goes…See More

In Which It's Just Not The Same

Posted on March 30, 2010 at 12:13pm 0 Comments

SCENE: It's Friday night at the club. The music is pumping, the alcohol is flowing, and every person in the club has their eye on someone else. The air is heavy with the fog that drifts down the stage where the DJ is set up, illuminating the multi-colored laser light show synced perfectly in time with the chest-thumping pulse of the loudspeakers.…
