- In 2008, I flew to Israel for free courtesy of Birthright. had plenty of time on my hands at the time, so I extended my ticket and stayed in the Middle East for three months. I started this as a travel blog called "Pieces of the Middle East" that evolved into Young Urban Amateur. The title "Young Urban Amateur" came about when I realized how much NYC is becoming the turf of young urban professionals, and how much the young urban amateur lifestyle is dying out.
