Paperclip or staple?

I should preface this post by saying I don't have any neighbors on either side of me, just above & below me.Ever since I moved in I hear really loud THUDS coming from upstairs. Sometimes these SHAKE the building.I thought make they were lifting weights and dropped them? Or slamming doors?! I don't even know but it happens a LOT and it kind of scares me.
