Hey for the AZ! I moved out here almost 3 years ago and was in the same dilemma!! Especially not being familar with the area. I actually work right downtown at 2 N. Central Ave in Phoenix but live in Scottsdale, AZ. Tempe is a lot cheaper - but I do not like the college scene down there. Scottsdale is ritzy in parts but I love it - and would highly recommend it. It is such a well planned community and you can go hiking, biking and running all over cause there are paths almost everywhere. My rent is $800 a month which is really pretty cheap for where I live. Because the market here was hit so bad there are a lot of places for rent. I live in a townhome off of Silvarado golfcourse and only 2 miles from Camelback Mountain. I'd highly recommend looking North of old town off of Hayden road - anywhere between Chapparel and Shea Blvd. There are a ton of townhomes and cute apartments that are afforadable. I'd also recommend looking on Craigslist instead or Rent.com. That's where I've had a lot of luck. I had a local realitor (super nice guy) help my find my condo - he is a family man and will help you find what you want for a price you can afford. If you like, I'd be happy to forward you his info! Also, I'd be happy to exchange phone numbers too if you ever want to talk / need help. Am always looking for more good girl friends!
