I teach for money (and the warm satisfaction of belittling children) and live as far away from other members of the human race as is possible. I dislike cats and racists (although a racist cat would be worse). I overuse parenthesis (like this) and underuse the semi-colon.

I'm glad to hear you're alive and kicking!

Sucks on the bloggy front- that last post was especially epic, so there is the added pressure of having to top that. 

I haven't been too bad, ta. Ridiculously jetlagged at the mo' and so not making much sense of anything. Been a bit quiet on the blogging front myself, but will hopefully find something of consequence to say!

Hope the busy lets up soon! You sir, are missed. xox

Can't complain!  Been working for the better part of the last two months, am enrolled at the local university to learn Mandarin, and I'm headed to Beijing for the Labour Day holiday.  Getting along just fine, I'd say.  How've you been?

Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it.  I've managed to learn "hello", "thank you", they taught me the word for "fog", and I've convinced them to translate for me the pet name they've been referring to me by ("cute white boy").  Baby steps.  I've been in country since about 10pm Saturday, local time.  If for some reason you decide to brave the elements and find yourself near Jinzhou, let me know.

So far it's a communication disaster, but all things considered I'm really enjoying myself.  The language and food are going to take some getting used to, among other things, but I think things are going about as well as could be expected for someone in my situation.  No pictures yet (which I'm actually kind of surprised about, given my red hair), but the English-speaking Chinese women I work with at my school seem quite taken with me.  Is there anything you wish you knew or wish someone had told you when you first moved to China, and do you have any suggestions for things I could do to ease my transition?
