I'm an American addicted to travel and life abroad. At 18 I moved to China (Dalian then Shanghai), and worked in journalism and tech start-ups.
After I graduated uni in 2010, I moved to Singapore on a whim and found a job in reality television. I spent those 15 months also actively exploring Southeast Asia thanks to my Singapore base.
This year, I've switched continents and am learning to live as a local in Paris!
Hi Edna! Thanks for your comment on my blog, I'm addicted to feedback just as much as the next blogger :). I would love to write something for you about living in Martinique. It's definitely an interesting perspective... life in a DOM-TOM of France isn't exactly the same as living in the Métropole. Just let me know!
HI Edna! I wish I had taken time to travel after college. Now I feel stuck in my full time job to pay all my college loans. So your plan sounds great :)
you go girl! I I graduated last May and did the same thing before getting tied down.. though it was only for a few months it was one of the most amazing experiences ever. I went backpacking through Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Asia is def next on my list and I heard great things about Singapore! Have a blast!!
YES! I moved to Spain about a year ago to teach ESL/ EFL. It's an amazing opportunity for Americans to get out and travel the world while their young. But clearly, you don't need advice on living abroad! LOL I've always wanted to travel around Asia; I'm definitely thinking of spending a summer teaching somewhere there!
I see, I see. Very interesting...yet more to think about lol. I guess it would be easier to look for work once over there rather than trying to find something before leaving? PR isn't really my field, I haven't really worked in it, so not sure if that would affect me getting a job but, at least I have a degree to fall back on just in case. Journalism would be something I'd like to get into - worth it even on a volunteer basis. Good to keep in mind. Thanks!
Oh I just noticed in your profile that you worked as a journalist in China for a bit - what was that like? I would love to do something like that as opposed to or part time in addition to teaching! I have a PR degree but a fair amount of voluneer journalism experience, mainly writing articles.
