Hi! I'm a 25 year old Carolina Native who is a TRUE FOODIE! I majored in Nutrition and apply to attend NYU in the Spring to get my M.A. in Food Studies so I can develop a food writing career. I've been passionate about writing since the age of 6 when I would write stories about mermaids, or barbies, or whatever my fascination was at the time. As I grew up, so did my writing style. I began writing poems, lyrics to songs, and at age nineteen, began creating recipes. I love learning about food, nutrition, and health. Until my 25th birthday, I never knew how to combine the areas of writing , food and health. This past New Years Eve, my birthday, I watched the film Julie and Julia, and knew where my passion existed: blogging. I immediately started a blog, and have been operating it since January. It has been my daily inspiration, and it's so much more than a recipe blog, but I share personal stories, insight and inspiration to all of those seeking health, joy and great tasting food! I feature quirky recipes, interesting topics and even have contests occasionally.
All of my life, I've dealt with fear, self doubt and anxiety. I am slowly just beginning to see myself for all of the great things I can do and want to accomplish. I moved to NYC last year because I love the city so much, and have always wanted to live there. I ended up moving back home due to family circumstances, and ended up losing my father this past May in a car crash. I couldn't be more thankful I was home. I do now plan to move back and step out of my level of fear of change, and try again for the city I so much love. I've always wanted to attend NYU and now know my passion lies in food writing and would love to write for a magazine.
My blog is titled The Soulful Spoon, (www.thesoulfulspoon.com), and it is based off of my belief of health being more than food or exercise, but instead a complete holistic journey. I love blogging and even plan to write a recipe book sometime within the next year.
My experience with professionally writing ranges from freelancing for a New York Times circular newspaper, serving on the newspaper staffs in school, and promotional writing for a nonprofit agency with United Way two years ago. However, none of those opportunities quite inspires me like food blogging and recipe writing does.
I love meeting other bloggers, finding out more about people and their interests and in my spare time, I like to cook, collect cookbooks, read, do lots of yoga, run, spend time with my dog Millie, grocery shop:), and of course, blog! Photography is also a new hobby I've taken up.
I'd love for you to check out my blog and again, it's great to be here!
Fill in the blank: "People who like _________ will love my blog!"

What makes you different from other bloggers?
I don't pretend to be perfect and my food writing style isn't super sophisticated nor are my recipes, but they are all delicious, self-created and inspired by something, whatever that may be! I'm a self-taught cook, recipe developer, photographer and blogger. I blog honestly using my interests, talents, faults and everything in between!:)
