College student, living in po-dunk football college town where I don't really fit in, or understand anyone. I complain a lot, but I have created a little bubble and can usually keep out the nonsense that goes on around here. Sometimes I can't, and that's why I blog!
Here is my etsy site.. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5088213 , there is a little box with pictures on the right side of my blog that has the site, I don't know what that is called! Let me know your flickr too and then we can be flickr friends!
jung chang (one of the authors, she wrote it with her husband) grew up in communist china - her father did die but i don't think it was during the cultural revolution. her mother didn't, but there were atrocious things done to her whole family. she didn't leave china until after university, and discovered how much of her life had been a lie, and unnecessarily brutal.
now who's the nerd? ;) i read her other book, "wild swans", which was heartbreaking.
i think the authors make no secret of the fact that they have an agenda. and all the other information about mao is completely falsified and untrustworthy, too. this, at least, is an answer to all of that, and provides and opportunity to start a discussion based on some fact.
Ah! That is so funny. Bloomington is really a cool city, there are a ton of international restaurants and a lot of bands and artsy stuff comes here. However, the job market is awful- especially for teachers. What does your husband want to get his PhD in?
