I'd Rather Learn to Knit

Of all my big talk about being ready to go home, feeling that I've gotten what I came here for, and that I had made my peace with Martinique, I'm not so sure anymore.

The countdown has begun, and I'll be (to quote a Canadian and be really cliché) "leaving on a jet plane" in less than a month.

The process I thought I was going to be skipping, the one I went through in both England and France…

Bananas Bananas Bananas

This weekend was completely BANANAS.

Literally.

We crossed off the Musée de Banane from our to-do list, and I'm honestly a little sad it's over.  I mean, I had my reservations at the start.  How great can a museum about bananas really be?  It can be freakin' awesome, that's how great it can be.

We pumped it up quite a bit, I'll admit in what was a more mocking fashion,…

Yesterday, I finally climbed Mount Pelée.  I had decided earlier that I wasn’t going to, because let’s face it – I don’t think I’ve been so out of shape in my life as I have been in Martinique.  I would have thought the sun and the sand and the constant bikini-wearing would have helped, but no luck.  I’ve definitely gained a few pounds.

So until yesterday, Pelée was out.  I had made my peace and I was prepared to leave this island without climbing to the top of the famous volcano. …

Insanity vs. Logic on a Saturday

Posted on February 6, 2012 at 6:35pm 0 Comments

Traveling always comes with a bit of insanity.  Traveling takes a bit of insanity.  Conclusion:  I am insane.

Proof?  The following.

Setting the scene for a lovely and relaxing Saturday spent in downtown Fort-de-France.  The ocean and the pier on one side, a view onto the boats and Trois-Islets on the other side of the bay.

Discovery of a North-American style coffee shop (give or take),…

Hi Joelle! I found your blog via the Travel Junkies group. I'm starting a series on my blog featuring expats around the world, and was wondering if you'd be interested in writing something on Schoelcher? I think it'd be pretty different, not too many people know much about Martinique! Anyway drop me a line if you're interested :)
