Where do you live:

Relationship Status:
Single, Looking
About Me:
The past two years I've been doing alot of "figuring out." I went to law school after college and completed one year. That year was the epitome of misery for me and I knew I could never be happy as an attorney, rich but not happy. So instead of "stick it out" b/c if anything, law school is prestigious, I decided to fight for my own happiness and pursue something I love. So I withdrew one week before my second year was to start.

I am now writing and I'm so happy with my choice. Oh yea, I'm also a graduate student at SJU getting my M.A. in Writing Studies. I'm done in December (whoo hoo)

I have traveled a lot- I love traveling- (studied abroad in Italy for 5 months, studied in Washington DC for 5 months, Paris, New York, Belgium, Mexico, Every State on the east coast from Maine to Florida) and although I love traveling I love returning home to the Philadelphia area.

I am serious about my writing and I am currently interning at Philadelphia Magazine in the online editorial department. I do sports writing for my grad school. Plus, I write for two local papers. The newspaperish can be dry (taxes and land purchases etc) but its experience. My favorite thing to write is my blog where I add weekly posts. The blog is called...

"Lana's 20something-- Straight Up, On the Rocks, Or With a Twist"

I am brutally honest (Straight Up). I take the road less traveled and sometimes the wrong one(On the Rocks). I make the best of the mess I've created (With a twist).

What makes you different from other bloggers?
My blogs are longer than the average bear. They are insightful but fun. If anything they have a good vibe, quick summary at the end and pretty great quotes to take with you when you sign off.
I am pursuing my M.A. in Writing Studies. I love writing, blogging, (www.lanas20something.blogspot.com) dancing, red wine, cinnamon gum, reading, coconut anything, my family, friends, the beach, coffee, sunsets, traveling, Sex and the City, honesty, intelligence, Rome, vodka tonics and sleeping in. (Not necessarily in that order) ;)

Forever Young

Yea I really like that too” he said.

He was tall, strong build, dark hair, light eyes and killer long eyelashes. What we were talking about didn’t matter. What his name was didn’t matter. Even if it did matter I wouldn’t be able to tell you either of those answers. Not because I wasn’t interested in him, but because I wasn’t listening to a word this gorgeous man was saying.

Instead I was lost in my own thoughts, because I noticed, that this was the “first time”…

Skewed Meaning of "Seen But Not Heard"

Posted on March 6, 2010 at 11:25pm 0 Comments

I walked into a restaurant the other night and I saw a little boy; he must have been 7 or 8, slumped over in a chair with his head down. I noticed he had some sort of Game Boy or “DS” (as they call it now) in his hands. He had earphones in so he could hear the sound, but not disturb anyone else. His parents were engaged in conversation with one another not paying him any attention. They left him alone and he left them alone. Hey, it’s cheaper than getting a babysitter.…

Being American with Olympic Humanity

Posted on February 26, 2010 at 6:30pm 0 Comments

I think it is a rare occasion, worth recognizing, when a Yankee’s Fan and a Red Socks Fan can sit in the same bar and root for the same team… Team USA. The camaraderie of being American is something that is lacking and usually only during great loss (like 9/11) or war, brings out that kind of patriotism. So, it’s refreshing to see people walk a little taller and feel a little more patriotic,… Continue

Ashes, Ashes, We All - Believe in Something

“Find a penny pick it up, all day long you have good luck.” Right?

Are you one of those people who reaches down to pick up that penny off the street? OR do you walk past it thinking… “it’s only worth one measly cent”! For me it depends on the…

well, the first year was the WORST. i don't think anyone would say anything different. the next two were a lot better in comparison, but it was still the same thing: lots of reading and writing. blah blah. i really learned how to think well and be resourceful. i'm glad i did it, but that's mostly because i'm finished. haha. practicing is a lot better than being in school. EVERYTHING IS.

you're in a different sort of grad school, right? how's that?

Hi Lana, it takes a strong woman to make that decision to pursue happiness instead of dollar signs. You should be proud of yourself, I'm proud of you and I don't even know you. lol

Hi there! I was teasing about it being a scam haha. If you are able to get a good topic you can do really well with examiner.com. The Twilight Examiner would probably tell you it's the best thing that has ever happened to her and I know there are some others who probably do it full-time and make a good living at it. But it's a penny a hit so as you cam imagine you have to get a lot of hits to make it worth your while. I have done ok but honestly I mostly just use it as an online writing portfolio :) You have nothing to lose though, you might as well give it a go! I will check out your blog! good luck!

I'm really starting to get nervous with all of the DIRE warnings I'm getting from people about high school. No turning back now though! All I did to get the badge was go on the main page of this site, and scroll down on the right hand side until I saw the little lime green badge, and a link on that badge to get your own.

Well that sounds like one of the coolest thesis ideas I've heard in a while haha. I'm in a master of arts in teaching program, with my area of focus being secondary level English. I'll be teaching high schoolers when I'm done, YIKES. I get out next May, and kind of can't wait. I started my grad program just 3 weeks after i finished undergrad, so a break will be much needed when it finally rolls around.

Haha, i noticed that! As long as they're entertaining, I say long blogs are okay! When will you be done with your graduate program? I'm in an english-related program myself.
