Go here http://www.google.com/friendconnect/ and log in with your Gmail/Google account (you'll need to make one if you don't have one) and click "add the members gadget" and follow the instructions... it's pretty straightforward and lets you customize the colours of the gadget to match your site, than you copy the code and paste in where ever you want it to go. One thing though - I have a my own hosting where I run a wordpress blog, not sure if the way I did it will work on the wordpress.com free site but it's worth a shot. If you have any questions while you're doing it shoot me a message and I will try my best to help :)
