About Me:
Meredith M. Bailey penned her first novel when she was only 10 years old and in the 5th grade. She wrote a story about vegetables that came to life on her kitchen counter-top. Although she should have shopped it around for publications, she instead returned to her middle school playground to challenge the boys to handball and field hockey matches. Little did she know she would have become one of the world’s youngest millionaires if she had just published her story before VeggieTales was released.

Now, Meredith is a writer, poet, blogger, painter, and the girlfriend of a chemist in Austin, TX. She received a BA in English at the University of New Orleans and is pursuing her teacher's certification.

Wishing To Become Someone Else

They all know now. My friends. Family. Friends of family. Co-workers. They all know that I blog and I'm a poet. Or that I call myself a poet because I blog poetry. Or that I call myself a blogger even though I don't report news events or political theories- just whimsies of a twenty-something life. They know about my chronic, unsolvable pain, employment woes, worries over dwindling bank accounts and failing at ever writing a publishable work.

And now they all know. The all know I hate my body a… Continue

Where You Used To Be

Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling in at night. I miss you like hell. ~Edna St. Vincent Millay

Where you used to be
On the couch
Driving in your car
By my side

Where you used to be
Standing in the kitchen
Asking if I needed water
Telling me about your day

Where you used to be
Lying on your side
Watching me pretend to sleep
Counting our breaths

Where you used to be
At my front door
Eating at my… Continue

Halfway Through

“I misss youuuu,” I whine as I roll over in my bed, sliding on my new red satin sheets that he finds ridiculous because I’m not a porn star and because sparks of static electricity dance on his long, leg hairs when he turns over.

“I know, I know,” he dismisses.

I know that he misses me too. I know that he knows he’ll be coming home in just under 2 weeks from now, but it still hurts to only speak to me for 10 minutes a day. I know this. I remind myself of this on an hourly basis some days.

Som… Continue

How comfortable is too comfortable?

You know, when you're dating someone for several months, and you start to slowly phase out of the kissy-wissy-honeymoon phase and into a "real relationship" that unbuttoning the top of your pants might be one step above taking them off while watching TV while your hand is hiding in a curious place.

I have consciously tried to leave the figurative top button unbuttoned and only that top button simply because it is my honest belief that when you get too comfortable, too soon, the relationship wil… Continue
