Thanks for the comment, Morrownow! Well, Monterey (and Salinas, since I lived there too and that's where Steinbeck was from) definitely have their pieces of Steinbeck's writing painted on the walls. Cannery Row, for instance, or the small riverbed that Of Mice and Men was based on (used to drive over it every day to go to work). But, much like anything else, it's become part of the tourist trap. Nevertheless, still has its charms. Careful with that grappa though, it'll burn if you drink too much! :)
