While I figure out how I'm going to become Benevolent Dictator of the World, I'm busy trying to reconcile ideals and pragmatism. I'm a 24 year old Franco-American with too many degrees I don't know what to do with.
I founded and now manage a grass roots nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the livelihoods of refugee children. This adventure began after I spent two months living and working in a Liberian refugee camp in Ghana - we strive to make a difference, but let me tell you, its hard when you're (grass) roots and have to build up something with practically no resources! Check us out, we're cool.
Hello, am a Ghanaian n resident in Ghana. love ur blog n hey keep up with the good work you are doin. Get in touch whenever you are in Ghana again.wish you all the best
Penelope, thanks for raising awareness about the plight of the Liberian refugees, and cutting through the media's spin and hysterics...this is the sort of thing that rarely gets any coverage in the news over here--after all, we've got an illegal war to perpetuate...thanks again and please keep us posted.
Thanks for writing such a thought-provoking blog. I write dribble even though my passion is politics. ; - ) The honesty and courage it takes to write about politics is something I don't have - so thank you for being so willing to put your beliefs out there....
Hi Penelope: thank you for the comments -- Regarding the shelter in Ghana, you might already know about them, but you may want to look into Architecture For Humanity (http://www.architectureforhumanity.org/). They're a non-profit that funds, designs and constructs humanitarian projects. A lot of their work deals with disaster relief, but your project sounds like it's right up their alley.
They're a great organization, and while I don't know what it takes to get their attention for a project like yours, I would definitely give them a look.
your blog is great, and i really respect its focus...it's refreshing to see a young person's blog that is conducted seriously and about serious issues. blogs can be a tool for change, more so than chatter. keep up the good work.
If you like that little Sprout application, you can easily add it to your own blog or page by clicking on "share" - a simple way to make a difference in the life of refugee children!

All the best.
Please sign the petition calling on authorities to insure that the rights of refugees in Ghana are being upheld:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/LiberianRefugees/index.html
It will be passed on to authorities as soon as we garner enough support.
This petition is co-sponsored by a group of NGOs and individuals who have worked and are currently working in the Buduburam refugee settlement.
Thank you.
They're a great organization, and while I don't know what it takes to get their attention for a project like yours, I would definitely give them a look.
Good luck!
