I had a post all written in my head, and half already on the computer. It was called “Excerpts from a breakup” and began with some pieces out of old blog posts from when we first broke up in June 2008 and then a tiny bit of old posts from when we got back together in [...]So maybe I lied a little.
I might be scared of my blog. - About Me:
- I'm Rebekah, a native Missourian currently living in St. Louis. I like to play with power tools, small appliances, and blog designs.
I work at a medical center where I am surrounded by brilliant people every day - it's inspiring and challenging. Of course, brilliance is often accompanied by confusion and an occasional lack of common sense, which is where my job comes into play. I help people help themselves and consequently help our patients. I'm a helper.
And I'm a writer: a blogger, a small-time author of Guidespot guides, grant requests and professional abstracts, an aspiring novelist with very specific goals for finishing and submitting a full novel manuscript in 2010. This is MY YEAR, guys.
In the meantime, it's a blogger's life for me. My blog Swinging from the Chandelier was so named because the notion of flying through the air while clinging to a light fixture is one of those silly things that looks like a ton of fun in the movies... and it could lead to a safe landing or to a comical smash against a wall. But that's life. It can go either way. Grab on.
Besides, the person swinging from the chandelier is the one who gets to kick the bad guy in the teeth, and I always wanted to be a hero like that.
I write openly. This blog has my heart all over its figurative sleeve. Some of it’s snark, some of it’s sad, some of it’s silly. All of it is real - and you can believe that if you can believe my English professor who once told me that my writing skills do not lie in fiction. I was informed that my characters’ dialogue was neither believable nor realistic, and I ought to stick to my strengths in academic and research writing.
So every post in here that recaps the events of my life is as honest and true-to-experience as I can capture without carrying a video camera around everywhere to remind me of exact dialogue and so on. Because really, you can’t make this stuff up.
