Down comforters are the greatest thing ever. I was my one splurge item for my apartment here in Paris. Now that winter is starting, I am more grateful for that decision every single day.

Actually, the reason it's phrased that way is because the plural signifies more importance like the royal 'we'.
Otherwise, people in Judaism would believe in more than one God which they do not. 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.'
