Ugh, I've been putting off writing this post since Monday, when I officially heaved myself over the second-decade line.
As a young Gen Xer, I have, in the last few years, created a point-of-pride out of my twenties, even though I've said in previous posts that I always felt like I was trying to claw my way out of them.

I always, or I guess used to, tell my friends that turning 29 meant the start of their year, as in 'The Year of Nikia.' That meant, hey, it's a celebratory year, so whatever you want to do -- do it. Whatever you want to see -- go see it. Whatever you want to say... shout it from the rooftops, baby. You're in your twenties, and wild with abandon!

I'm feeling sort of alone today, though not in that go home and eat six packages of Ramen noodles in my pajamas and watch Lifetime movies kind of way.
I feel more like, I don't know, the Village Idiot? Part of a community, amusing to most, necessary to an extent, but at the end of the day, in charge of my own wacky misguided destiny.

Last Monday, Columbus Day, I had the day off from my full-time job, but used the time to catch up on a slew of freelance work that was piling up.
About half-way through the day, I realized that if or when I make the leap to self-employment (I've been talking about it more and more lately), this is largely what it would be like. And it wasn't so bad.
