I always, or I guess used to, tell my friends that turning 29 meant the start of their year, as in 'The Year of Nikia.' That meant, hey, it's a celebratory year, so whatever you want to do -- do it. I'm feeling sort of alone today, though not in that go home and eat six packages of Ramen noodles in my pajamas and watch Lifetime movies kind of way.

Last Monday, Columbus Day, I had the day off from my full-time job, but used the time to catch up on a slew of freelance work that was piling up.
