What better way than to kick off 2012 with a new project?I'm sure we can all agree that each day goes by too fast. We get so wound up in our busy lives that we sometimes forget to smell the flowers,…Continue

Where do you live:
Los Angeles
About Me:
Three cultures + multi-national + nomad + "homeless" = Me aka. a Third Culture Kid

I was born to a German father and a Japanese mother and spent a majority of my life in other countries. I was raised speaking both languages but never felt like I truly fit in with the other German or Japanese kids. I’ve never thought of Germany or Japan as “my home”. Now in my second decade of life, I’ve lived in Hamburg, Tokyo, Bremerhaven, Warwick RI, Brussels, Boston MA, and Los Angeles CA. I’ve been in the US for about 7 years now but I’m constantly reminded that I am not from this country. I have to deal with work visas and immigration, and hate checking the “non-resident alien” box in official forms. Yet, my life and everything I love is here. But I know that one day I’m going to be forced to leave.

I first started Chasing Hiromi on paper when I moved to LA in August 2007 by jotting down thoughts and concerns in establishing the U.S. my “home”. I started to blog about it in November 2010 when I was stressing about finding a job that was willing to sponsor me. Fortunately for me, I found a great job, got my H-1B work Visa, met fantastic people and adopted a cat.

This blog is about adapting to the American culture and the transitions of creating a new “home”. I share with you my life in still through my 365 Project, my appreciation and passion for social media & marketing creativity, day-to-day things in the US that impressed me, made me laugh, found ridiculous, and many more. Establishing a “home” is a process, and this particular blog explains mine.

How long have you been blogging:
I've had a diary since I was 9 but have been blogging since November 2009.
Fill in the blank: "People who like _________ will love my blog!"
cultures, to travel, photo blogs
What makes you different from other bloggers?
My definition of “home” is bittersweet – it’s not where you are accepted on paper but rather where you can’t think of anywhere else in the world you would rather be in. And although I may convince myself into believing that I have established a “home” in a given city, I know on the back of my mind that it will always be temporary.

Oh I am german. Pale skin, lankly limbs, and a name that is actually pronounced BOOMKA! And I will not let your peanut butter affliction stand in the way of our friendship. Cheers.
