I don't know why or for whom, but I feel compelled to etch this into eternity in the undying land of the blog. I quit. Yes indeed, I am a quitter, but they called me names!
This happened a few weeks ago which led to me going 100 % freelance journalist. Yay for the sucker who's got his own. So I wasn't paid. I'd been working for this company for over year, half of which I did from home. Never sent an invoice to get my fixed salary no matter how much I worked, but then in the last month I don't get paid.
I freak out. This is exactly what I would have expected from them. So I threaten labour courts blah blah. No I am a freelance journalist they say, I need to invoice them my salary. By now all my debit orders bounce - I freak a little more.
I email more and more and get no response. I sms the manager editor's PA, and ask "I email, you don't respond. I have no money...fix it" She says their server has been down for a while and can't receive emails but she'll find out why I haven't been paid.
Apparently I need to send an invoice. I ask "why? Does this mean I get to charge my rates (which would have tripled the salary)" and she says "no" I get paid their miserable 2c with a pat on the back. I say "How do I invoice you if you can't receive emails?", then she says "pick up a damn phone and speak to [the person in charge of finances] yourself, I am not your manager anymore" (she says it like she ever was).
I get pissed off and say "I was told numerous times to always go through you with any queries I have even though you can never answer my questions yourself - always running to someone else to get the answer".
She says "Listen here u prick Im no longer ur manager thank God so why don't u take your smart ass attitude and shove it where the sun dont shine and speak to [the person who deals with accounts] about ur money." - I do have a smart ass attitude - and I thought she wasn't perceptive. (She is also like 10 years older than me).
Anyway, so my smart ass attitude compels me to reply so I say "That's really mature for someone who pretends to be professional. The reason I have an attitude is because you (as a project manager who got their diploma from some 3rd-rate dropout college) are horrendously under-qualified to manage journalists. If printing articles and putting them in a folder for someone else to edit makes you feel like a manager then you must feel really fulfilled."
She says "Catch a wake up, u r so pathetic and ur arrogance is your down fall (two words - I know...). Good riddance to bad rubbish is all I can say. Now best you move on with your insignificant life!"
She cracks me up. So I moved on by publishing this.
Yours truly,
SmartAss
